no. it's just a quirk in the way spyderco handles reveals and their website. only the latest reveal is on the new products page. only released models show up when you click on all products or specific categories in the menu. when a knife is part of a previous reveal, but hasn't come out yet, it doesn't fit in any category (at least the way spyderco categorizes them), so they aren't visible anywhere unless you search for them specifically. it's kind of annoying when you are waiting for a new knife to be released and you can't find it on the website easily to see if it's been released yet, but it's been brought up multiple times here and they don't seem too bothered by it. it's really not a huge deal though. the knife will show up in its proper category when it's finally released.RustyIron wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 11:39 pmDo you think that some of these "limbo" knives were conceived when that particular model was selling well, and sales eventually declined, reducing the incentive to squander production capability on something that might not sell quickly? I don't have sufficient knowledge to know, but it seems like a plausible explanation.

Re: Reveal 15 - Live!
I'm stoked on the K390 Stretch XL, that'll probably be my first purchase from this list. I haven't been buying many knives lately, but that and the Crucarta Millie 2 are at the top of my list.
Stoked on the PD#1 run also, it's behaved pretty much like Cruwear in my Mule Team and I'm sure it'll work just as well in the lightweights. I don't love the color, but it'll be a slam dunk for a lot of folks. Good candidate for some aftermarket Micarta.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Re: Reveal 15 - Live!
My first reaction was, "yup, yup, yup..." and then I did some math and had to process the fact that I can't buy every single one.
I'm currently telling myself that I will "only" grab, in rough order of my excitement: the DFly PD#1, P4 PD#1, Cru-Wear PE Temperance, both Ti Tenacious, and the M2 SPY27.
I went all in on the 15v Sprints and have all the Maxamet models, so I'm gonna not do Rex121 to myself until it shows up on a Native 5. Or a Shaman. Or a Chief...
I know I'll cave on other PD#1s and SPY27s, and almost certainly the Techno 3, but I'm gonna lie to myself for awhile and stick with my story.
A surprising and awesome reveal! Thanks, Spyderco,

Re: Reveal 15 - Live!
Yes@alphaneuron9, PD#1 is Carpenter's version of Crucible's Cru-Wear. CPM Cru-Wear is my favorite steel so I'm looking forward to comparing them.
Also, I missed earlier Cru-Wear DFly exclusives, and I am never without my DFly K390, so getting one in PD#1 will be great.
If PD#1 sharpens as easily, and responds to a strop as well as Cru-Wear I'll be a happy boy.

How are these non stainless high carbon steels holding up in LA's humidity?CDEP wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:31 pmYes@alphaneuron9, PD#1 is Carpenter's version of Crucible's Cru-Wear. CPM Cru-Wear is my favorite steel so I'm looking forward to comparing them.

I guess LAs humidity is not too bad...60s throughout the year... yeah, I just looked it up. Im off Miami... humidity in the 80s. Ive been shying away from the high carbon steels, but can not resist owning a rex 121. Also purchased a 15V. Beautiful works of craftsmanship and ingenuity. Love the whole metallurgy nuance.

I'm not near the water, so stainless is my least needed quality. Only K390 has even taken a patina on me - Cru-Wear, M4, 10v, 15v, Maxamet, all good. I do keep my blades pretty clean, though. And store all tool steels with silica packs when not in use.alphaneuron9 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:38 pmHow are these non stainless high carbon steels holding up in LA's humidity?CDEP wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:31 pmYes@alphaneuron9, PD#1 is Carpenter's version of Crucible's Cru-Wear. If I needed high corrosion resistence I'd go with MagnaCut & SPY27/VG10. VG10 is still a fave, and the SPY27 is just turbo VG10, so I'm looking forward to getting more of it.
I'll also note that I put a 15 degree per side edge on all my powder steels and have seen zero corrosion on the bevels.
Rex45 & XHP are worth a look, too.
Let me know how the Rex121 works for you when the Sages hit.

<you> I've been eyeing the maxamet sage, but I live on an island and wouldn't want the blade all rusty and "patina'd" (excuse the poetic license).
In another post you'd said LA, is that Louisiana or Los Angeles? I'm 100 miles inland from the Los Angeles coast and haven't had any trouble with M4 or K390.

Yes, that's tugging on me too.

I'm feelin' it too. Might be my least rational knife urge to date (that's no low bar). It's not like I'm at the point where I'm pushing Maxamet to its limitsBolster wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 10:51 pmYes, that's tugging on me too.alphaneuron9 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 1:34 pm...cannot resist the opportunity to own the current champ in edge retention.
There is no ONE perfect knife. Only perfect for a specific use, and the longer you've been in the knife hobby the more you master the art of narrowing down the definition of a use case.
Don't worry my friend, I'm sure you'll find another perfect knife in a not so distant future

I find PD1 better than Cruwear. Been using the PD1 mule for a long time and it’s my hard use favourite. Has shredded many a thick plastic container and hasn’t shown any corrosion being used in the kitchen for a few years.CDEP wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:31 pmYes@alphaneuron9, PD#1 is Carpenter's version of Crucible's Cru-Wear. You know, I'd never thought about it because it's not a steel that I specifically seek out, but Spyderco doesn't have any models with 14C28N blade steel, do they? How very odd. That seems like just the sort of low-priced, solid performer-type steel Spyderco is so adept at getting the best out of. I definitely agree with you: I'd be interested to see what their processes did for 14C28N, and in that same vein, Nitro-V as well.VandymanG wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 1:20 pmI would’ve got this one if they had made the blade 14C28N. If the blade from M4 Tenacious model can be swapped out for the 8Cr13MoV blade on the upcoming titanium model, I might just have to spend about $300 to frankenstein me up a monster of a Tenacious. I guess I could go with S35VN instead of the M4 and save, like, twenty bucks, but I'd happily pay that much more for M4.
Re: Reveal 15 - Live!
8Cr is sourced locally in China, whereas 14C would need to be imported, and would increase the cost. Compare the costs of the Tenacious in S35VN and M4.Hatuletoh wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 8:20 amYou know, I'd never thought about it because it's not a steel that I specifically seek out, but Spyderco doesn't have any models with 14C28N blade steel, do they? While I do not doubt the data from CATRA testing, I find that in actual use there is very little noticeable difference in edge retention between Spyderco's superior 8Cr and the 14C28N found in budget knives from other companies. YMMV, but I'd rather take the superior geometry and ergos of the Spyderco Tenacious in 8Cr, at its price point, than an inferior knife with a steel that looks better on paper but may not actually perform better due to heat treatment.
I have a lot of 14C budget knives from China, and most perform just fine, but I'd choose the Tenacious in 8Cr over any of them.
I did buy an M4 Tenacious, and was happy to pay the premium for that steel.
I understand that the assumption is that Spyderco would presumably work their Voodoo on 14C as they have with 8Cr, but for me the bump would not be worth the price. I passed on the S35VN Tenacious.
