Counterfeit Fish Hunter?

#1

Post by SpyderEdgeForever »

Kristi and sal and others does this look like a counterfeit Fish Hunter with some stealing of the Aqua Salt design also?

The brand is called Scipio and apparently they steal designs and alter them a bit. They copied some other Spyderco knives like the Delica and also the famous Gerber Gator folder. Do you think they are China based?

Yes. It is sadly on multiple sites. Here we go:

I used Tiny Url to shorten the web link. This is from the Wal Mart site:

https://tinyurl.com/5dhjfrks

This is from the Zoro.com site:

https://tinyurl.com/2nz2r62u

This is from the Ebay site:

https://tinyurl.com/msm67f5f

This nasty counterfeit has gotten on all of these online stores.

Interestingly the original "Direct Depot" site that I saw it on will not load or their site has crashed. That was the first time I ever heard of that website.

Thank you for the reply and looking into this!

Essentially what happens? The counterfeiters get one of the originals and then back at wherever they have factories, they somehow use their machinery and molds to make a knock-off from lesser quality materials and then these companies like Wal Mart and Ebay Sellers purchase and resell them to the public?

I read an article some time back about Chinese people going to Europe and they would buy an authentic expensive name brand hand bag and bring it back to China where they have sweatshops producing the copies, and then they have their counterfeitters sell them on the streets all over America and Europe.

Are we looking at the same knife here? At best it seems to be (poorly) inspired by the Aqua Salt. No similarity in grinds. The handle bears a lot of similarity. "Counterfeit" is a stretch though, IMHO.
