Wanting Some Good Cargo Work Pants

#1

Post by Scandi Grind »

Wondering if anyone has suggestions for some good cargo work pants. There are a lot of good looking "tactical" pants out there these days and I'm not really sure what to think of one brand next to the other. (By the way there is a serious overuse of the word tactical as an adjective for products sometimes. :winking-tongue ) 5.11 Tactical appears to be the popular brand right now, but there seem to be other nice offerings from other companies as well.

I'd like something that doesn't look too strange in a typical setting, something a little streamlined, but still loose fitting. Any thoughts or suggestions? What brands have you used that you like?

I'll second Duluth Trading. I've been wearing their cargo pants continuously for years.

Only 5.11 I’ve owned were some ripstop ones from Walmart when they first started carrying the brand. They were fine, and super cheap, but definitely had a bit too much of that tactical pants look for me…

Other brands I’ve worn over the years include Mountain Hardwear, Kühl, and Columbia. All three of them held up really well, and can occasionally be found at a TJ Maxx or Marshall’s, depending on your location.

I’ve never owned anything Duluth, but their reputation speaks for itself.

The heavier Duluth Trading pants (the original firehose material) are very, very tough. I mostly wear the 'dry on the fly flex' variant during warmer weather, because it's a lot lighter.
