Caly 4 - how exciting! I’ve been considering a Caly for a while just off the back of Bolster’s glowing recommendations, but I prefer a 4inch (or larger) blade wherever possible.

Now I’m just hoping it comes in Magnacut or something similarly rust resistant (but really Magnacut ).

The current plan includes; a continuation of the Caly 3 in traditional carbon fiber, a Caly 3.5 (3.5" blade) in both traditional carbon fiber and a light weight version. A Caly 4 (4.0" blade) in carbon fiber. A Caly 2.5 (2.5" blade). And a necklace pendant miniature (non locking) in 4 handle variations. This will increase the size of the "family" and assuming all goes well, we can make variations (requested by you) in different materials.

OK, OK, it's (1) maybe not a bombshell and (2) it's not Sal. Still, I'm posting here.

I've always wondered what tolerances Spyderco holds on its knives. In a recent promo interview I watched, Eric said "half a thou." Which any machinist will tell you is incredibly tight tolerance for a product of this type. Might not be a big deal for machinists manufacturing the Mars Rover, but for a knife? Dang, that's impressive. I'm usually thrilled if I can hold my machining to five thousandths. Maybe Rusty can do better but I think even he would say those are remarkable tolerances.

But he was thinking about inches, right? So it's 0,0127 mm. Probably mechanical parts in knives from Golden and Taichung have such tolerances, and that's it. Grinds sometimes have 1,5 mm difference. I'm working with such tolerances very often. It's not that hard when you have quality tools, good program and a lot of time and some spare parts to waste. :P

I'm hoping it has a 4 way clip / 4 way wire clip.

I find the 3.5-4" models (Mil, Endura, Police, Ulize, etc) deploy better tip down, whereas Delica/Caly 3 sized knives do better tip up.

At this point, We've given them a number of designs, so it will depend on which they choose to make first.

It was suggested to make a sprint of the Calypso jr FRN with the fishscale scales. Any interest?

I'm hoping it comes with carbon fiber that has a bit of texture. Something like the US peel-ply or the smooth CF ZT uses. Love the Caly it all its iterations. However, the glass-smooth finish of the Caly 3.5 CF leaves much to be desired.

...for you. For me I really like the smooth CF more than I ever thought I would. It glides in and out of my pocket easily and it doesn't shred my pockets. The shape of the handle provides a sure grip when in use. I wouldn't say no to peel ply but I'd rather see the same material that's used on the Sage 5 hopefully with a different color

^ I agree with this statement. I think the peelply texture is nice and I understand the appeal. They both have there pros and cons. I find in practical use it barely makes no difference on this knife for me, the hooked downward handle shape, jimped finger choil & thumb ramp locks the hand in place and is doing all the grip work. But with the added benefit of being very easy in and out of the pocket.

^ I've often lost my pinch grip trying to pull my clipped-in CF Caly from my waistband. It's pretty durn slippery! Though I take your point that it does not shred pants.
