Any word on the Salsa?

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

I thought I remembered the possibility of a new Salsa with compression lock? What happened to that?

Would that be different than the old Salsa with compression lock?

Yeah, it would be new. I remember discussion about it and some were in favor of the cobra hood and some not. The hood looks cool, but I personally think it would be in the way of cutting.

Hi Doc,

The previous discussion didn't gather much steam back then, so I didn't move on it. I'll watch this thread. I'm pretty sure we still have the tooling, and we're still working with the Maker. Anything in particular have your interest? We made a number of versions.

I like the idea of the return of the Salsa , especially if a Salt version would be considered . Keep the hood please .MG2

Hi Sal,

I personally would prefer a Compression lock or a back lock, and the new 15V would be just fine. But, SPY27 would be good, too. I'm happy with that steel in my limited usage.

I remember that talk too.

I think I’d like the Salsa for some of its features like a tall handle, cobra hood, aluminum version, and integral compression lock variation.

However, I’m interested in seeing those individual characteristics on more knives, not necessarily the Salsa itself.

The coolest feature is definitely the Integral Comp Lock. That really needs to make a comeback.
One of Spyderco’s rarest and most interesting lock variations, but probably also has among highest potential in todays market (in my opinion).

A new Salsa would be fun, though!

I’d certainly be interested in another titanium Salsa (with Cobra hood), but in Magnacut.

I'd love to see titanium scales and integral comp lock like the C71TI. I'd be happy with any steel that's higher in corrosion resistance. I'd prefer the cobra hood if it was a larger knife that I'd use with gloves, but I'd be okay without it on a smaller knife like the Salsa.

Maybe Sal could hook up with Smith and Wesson and get some Aluminun-Scandium alloy for the scales...light and strong.

I didn't remember the previous discussion, so I didn't know whether you were talking about another run of the original or an updated version with proposed changes. I have one of the originals, I'll pass either way. I suspect the hood had something to do with it opening in my pocket twice before I stopped carrying it.

I did not care much for the compression lock of my Salsa, it had pivot play and vertical play when the blade was locked. But I'm pretty sure these things would not happen on a new one. I'd love to see it in something like Cruwear, K390 or even one of the very hard japanese steels, with according colors !

A Micarta salsa would be fun too.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Robin. Finally made an IG : ramo_knives
