Found A Watch Fob , Help !

#1

Post by Manixguy@1994 »

ImageImage Working in the backyard burning limbs I found an old watch fob sticking out of the ground . I can’t figure out what the initials stand for on the backside . As you can see the fob is old and dated 1910 . Dan

Nice find. I have no idea what it means, but it's cool nevertheless.

Can you read the dates on the front (by the eagle/shield)? If it's "1865 - 1915" then it may be related to the 50-year anniversary of the end of the US Civil War.

The back looks like it's commemorating the merger of two groups, (I?)LDA and MSA, in 1910. (That doesn't mean the fob was made in 1910 though; just that the merger happened then.) First thought is labor unions. There were lots of little unions back in the early 1900s that often merged together. But it could be a merger of just about any groups.

eta: that screenshot is an excerpt from a book, "american lumberman" apparently from 1906, which would make sense of the description of the fob design being different on a different year.

Oh my gosh ! Thank you LB ! This makes the fob so much more special . At one time there were two lumber yards in our town . I will have to research were the owners lived . We have a local historical society in town so I can give them this information. You have really made a rainy gloomy day very bright . Buddy Dan
