SBK vs MotoGP - Motorcycle Road Racing!

#1

Post by Naperville »

GET AMPED UP FOR MOTORCYCLE ROAD RACING! The season is just starting, and for a FEE can be watched via streaming on the appropriate websites, or snippets of it for FREE on YouTube and Instagram / Twitter.

World Superbike is an event where they use mostly stock street bikes, and the minimum production number is 2000+ motorcycles.

The only thing faster than a MotoGP or World Superbike around any track is F1. F1 has the fastest road going vehicles that I know of.

F1 has 4 huge wheels, 4 massive sets of brakes, 750 to 1,000bhp (brake horsepower) and tons of down-force! Although people die in F1 and motorcycle racing, you have to have some huge cahones to race a motorcycle where every accident could be the last time you ride.

F1 is far more forgiving on the racers than MotoGP, but a heck of a lot faster. The two championships share four venues (Barcelona, Red Bull Ring, Silverstone and Circuit of the Americas) but the F1 cars are around 30 percent quicker over a lap. I'm not trying to sell F1, but watch what you like. I never had a fast car, a Ferrari or Lamborghini to compare it to. Cornering speeds are almost double in F1 over the motorcycles due to down-force.

I follow MotoGP and World Superbike. I owned a 2001, 750cc Suzuki GSX-R750 Japanese Supersport (rated the best bike for handling in the world over and equal to fully decked out Ducatis costing $30,000) and it was unreal, lightning quick in all directions, cornered like it was on rails, excellent brakes and I did not even have anything like the racing bikes which are much better.

There are accidents in all styles of road racing and accidents are inevitable. If you are new to watching motorsports, watch the races within the race. The guy trying to overtake everyone from 3rd to 1st! It happens and it is quite dramatic. It take time, and the rider has to be very patient.

A MotoGP prototype costs around $3.5 million or more to create. The engines self-destruct at around 2000 kilometers. There are currently six factory teams competing: Honda, Ducati, Yamaha, KTM, Suzuki and Aprilia. The racing is similar to World Superbike, but a bit faster, a bit better brakes, better aero, and the best riders in the world. The racing tactics are the same as World Superbike.

MotoGP motorcycles are lightweight at around 350lbs, 300+ HP and can reach speeds exceeding 220mph.

As the saying goes, "Those were the days."

I started to watch SBK and MotoGP back then. My first motorcycle was a Kawasaki GPZ 550 with a ton of work done to it. Too many names to list!!!! Eddie Lawson, Kenny Roberts, Freddie Spenser, ....on and on.
