I stumbled upon this video from the internet, and thought that’s pretty interesting, a blue g10 calypso. In case anyone wanted to know what one looks like. I like it.
I hope the original calypso and jr models don’t fade away for good, I love the all fishscale frn, g10, micarta, stainless versions. Even harder to find than the calys nowadays. But I really love them and think they should deserve a sprint run once in a while. I’m most excited to see the what the new 2.5” and 4” Caly designs look like though. I’m hopeful it will be an effective revival for the design family.
Can you share the link to the video?

Looks efficiently compact for its blade size. Glad to see Spyderco making compact models.
Yeah the calypso is a wonderful design. Will be interesting to see how the new caly 4 compares

My plan is to try to revive the Caly Family with a Caly 2.5", 3.0", 3.5", 4.0" and pendants. The maker is small and slower so it will be a while. Probably Carbon Fiber, though I'm open to suggestions.

sal
Sal, does this mean the 3.5 LW isn’t at the top of the list anymore? I recall that being mentioned as the next revival of the Caly line.

Hi Saucerito,

At this point, We've given them a number of designs, so it will depend on which they choose to make first.

It was suggested to make a sprint of the Calypso jr FRN with the fishscale scales. Any interest?

Anything new in the calypso/caly family I’m all for. I’d prefer a new micarta Calypso Jr. but I like the fishscale frn too. Did you have any scale color or steel in mind sal?

Absolutely! The fish-scale Caly Jr ZDP is one of my most carried knives. It's so light it just disappears, but has a very capable blade shape that gives a rather straight edge, but is at the same time, a tip that's pierce-y (if that's a word). I would nominate the Caly Jr in FRN as one of Spyderco's all-time greats. If this becomes a sprint in a PM steel, I'll have to stock up.

Sal,

The Calypso Jr isn’t a model I’ve ever given much thought as I‘m not very knowledgeable about it. I’m most interested in the LW Caly 3.5 given the blade and handle size as well as my experience with the UKPK. Just wish it could be tip down as well. That being said, the tip down aspect of the Calypso Jr is very appealing given how I carry this size of knife IWB.

I also love my delicas. Besides the choil, what do you see as the greatest functional/ergonomic difference between the Delica and Calypso Jr?

A 4” Caly would be phenomenal! The green G10 from the Hap40 version would also be a nice option IMO. Even doing a sprint run in an exotic steel like YXR7 would be mind blowing.

I'd rather see an updated fishscale Caly 3 FRN.

Sorry,

That would be all new tooling for a sprint. Cost would be prohibitive.

That Calypso Jr. handle mold must be getting pretty long in the tooth by now. I hope it has another Sprint in it. My fingers are long enough that I prefer the extra width at the pivot area over the deeper choil of the Caly3. I'd buy a Junior Sprint in just about anything except AUS8.
