Need info about this knife.

Post by J0k3r »

Hi guys!
Got this in a trade 15 years or so ago.
Dont know anything about it. Is it factory grinded or custom? Unusual or not?
Any value to it?

Thanks in advance!

Dear J0k3r:

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

Your knife is a stainless Endura that has been reground to a full-flat grind by Tom Krein and drilled and tapped for tip-up carry on the right side--both very cool modifications. It's a keeper...

Stay safe,

Mike

That’s a beauty. Taken from Krein’s website: “ Thank you for your interest in my work. My books are currently closed. I have several years of orders currently and am working on getting them squared away.”

If I had to guess, Krein probably tapped the tip up clip holes in addition to the grind. So yeah, you can’t even replace it’s current configuration. Love to see such a great knife doing as intended — cutting things. Enjoy, I’m a little jealous.

Tom does great work, but it seems to me the SS Endura came drilled and tapped for RHTU or RHTD from the factory before the Gen4 went 4-way.

I still have a ZDP-189 Endura that Tom did for me before he started putting the "Krein Regrind" logo on.

Hey, Yablanowitz:

I stand corrected. I thought it was an Endura 4, not an Endura 2. The photos aren't clear enough to see the steel marking.

The Endura 2 was right-side, tip-up/down.

Thanks!
Can you tell the age and value of it?

The Boye dent in the lockbar was added in 2002, and it was replaced by the Gen4 in 2006, so somewhere in that span. The Krein regrind probably cost as much as the knife. Since it's discontinued and Tom isn't doing regrinds any more, it would be almost impossible to replace, but the actual value would likely be a couple of hundred bucks.

I love how the old Endura blades look like the Military. Makes me want an Endura.

The handle lines look a bit more neutral as well.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
