Where did the name "Spyderco" come from?

This may be covered in the Spyderco Story so if it is just let me know.

I just wondered where Sal (or whoever for that matter) came up with the name "Spyderco"?

It is rather cool and I just now thought I'd like to know :)

If you cannot give up the info......that's fine also :)

Sal LOVES sports cars etc, and the so called "Spider" cars, especially. Big motors, lightweight bodies, like the Thunderbolt plane of WW2, I guess.
Spider Company...Spyder company...SpyderCo...Spyderco.

I read this somewhere, so I guess when Sal is tired of the Formula1 (?) he will give you the MOST accurate answer :)

Probably not since Spyderco started in California. UK-Ken has some good information on his website: http://uk-ken.com/interest.htm .

All of the following is IIRC

"Mr. Glesser, before building the Sharpmaker, invented a device to use on a desk that looked like a spider and was used to hold all sorts of things like pictures, paper, notes with little clamps at the extremities of its legs.... The name stayed."

Is this right?

That's what I remember hearing as well. I believe that is how the name came about.
