Spyderco Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund Knife

#1

Post by slick228 »

Is there any chance of having a hurricane Katrina relief fund knife from Spyderco? The magnitude of this disaster is astronomical and the victims need Spyderco’s help. If Sal decides to move forward with this project, I’ll be the first in line for this knife! I could prepay if necessary. Fellow forumites, please support this worthy cause. Thank you.

A non rusting knife would be quite appropriate. :spyder: :spyder:

Count me in too. I agree that one of the Salt models would be a fine choice.

Or we could all Buy one and then with the money to buy the knife donate it and Spyderco could donate a special knife to rescue Workers.

I was wondering how long it would take for this to come up.

I think it is a good idea, the Salt or rescue would be a good choise because of the price.More people would be will to buy it.
Maybe engaveing a huracane symbol or flag on the blade along with something like Katrina Fund.
I would be in for one.

I would think if we forumites, as individuals, wish to contribute to Hurricane Relief funds, it would be far more efficient for us just to do so directly, rather than via the purchase of a knife.

I think if we wish to do so collectively, there must be someone within our group that we would trust to assemble our individual contributions into one "collective" contribution and submit it.

I think the ripples from this disaster are going to spread far and wide. That it, like 9/11, will have a major negative impact on the American economy. That, aside from those directly impacted by it, it will hurt small companies like Spyderco, whose sales depend to a large exent on discretionary income, the most. We tend to be unaware of, or ignore, that in some ways, Spyderco is just recovering from the economic downturn that followed 9/11 and destroyed at least one other knife manufacturer. I know Sal has a big heart, and will, in this situation as in the past, do what he can to help. I just think another "disaster fund" knife, especially at this point in time, might not be the best way for either Spyderco or us to react to this.

I agree with Deacon. While a knife made for hurricane relief would be a nice idea. It would be inefficient to help the victims at all. Firstly, the knife would take time to make, and would like not be available to help the rescue workers in any reasonable amount of time. Secondly, if we want to help the victims, it would be faster to send money directly to the Red Cross or another organization, than to buy a knife. Thirdly, if we want to help at all, why do we need a knife to do it? Do we need proof that we helped? I hate to get all philosophical, but wasn't a Spyderco slogan "Integrity is being good when no one is looking" I could be wrong, but to me, in this situation, that means to just help how you can, if you can, and don't worry about how you will be rewarded.

We don't need a knife to help the victims, there are numerous other ways to help. I respect the idea, but it would be better as a tribute knife down the road somewhere, when time is not as important.

Just my opinions, and I apologize if I offended anyone. :o

I for one have contributed already through several different venues. But I think we should wait till tha facts come out here. There is deffinatly a lot of tradgey here, but i think there has been a lot more inepetism(sp) that has cost a lot of people too much(from all thier possesions to thier lives). I urge everybody to do some research before blindly "helping" by sending money.

Also dont forget your local causes as this is the time they will suffer as a major disaster sucks all the funds in.

Guys I am really holding back here, I know people who are still recovering from the Northridge Earthquake.
