I always wondered what caused that shimmer in VG-10. Thank you!

Yeah, almost like a stainless damascus wootz except without the contrast between carbide and matrix, However, a lot of these ingot stainless steels have this feature, So it's not unique to VG-10.

I agree vivi. I find the choil is great for choking up in a hammer grip when doing harder cutting, I almost never place my thumb on top of the blade if I’m whittling or cutting with a lot of force. But I personally wouldn’t want my slim edc pocket knife as first choice for wood carver, I could do it, but there’s knives that are better made for that task. And the choil is also great for orienting your grip so the butt of the handle actually sits more in the middle of your palm. This angles the tip of the blade further down and allows your indexfinger to slide further up and positioned underneath your thumb for a pinch grip style, which gives you really tight control and works really well for finer and more precise cuts - which I find a small edc folder sees the most amount of work with
Discussing ergos is fun. It would be cool to see sal would make an Edge-u-cation video on the thought process behind his most refined designs like the Calys to inform users on the benefits of its design features.

That’s the term spyderco made I believe for their info letters in each of their products boxes, I think it would be really interesting if they extended that deeper by perhaps making videos talking about their famous designs and going into the design roots, explaining the intentions behind its design features. Which they somewhat do in their info packets and descriptions on their website. I like spyderco’s description of the Caly. “designed to be a natural extent of the hand” because thats surely what it does

I would definitely watch those videos…guessing I need to look up the Caly because I do like the looks of it…here’s my favorite Delica, nothing in the arsenal slices like this one

I prefer the cutting ergos of the delica when the pocket clip is removed. So I'd never be able to put it into my walk away knife category. For myself I'd likely choose the leaf jumper instead. Just checks all the boxes for me in terms of carry, overall functionality, ergonomics, blade shape/k390 heat treat etc.

Keep in mind, this behavior is not unique to VG-10, It will also be seen in other common cast ingot, high carbon stainless steels like 154cm, 440C, N690Co etc. you may even see it in BD1N, BD1, 8Cr13MoV etc.

Despite having owned an endura for close to 15 years and several other spyderco models, I just picked up
a delica (BHQ exclusive, CPM M4, coated blade) this past year and couldn’t agree more witch Shawn’s assessment, I don’t know that I have much to add except that that the ergonomics are a really under-rated aspect of the knife. The comfortable handle is really secure in the hand in a variety of grips and really lets me leverage the thin geometry to handle kitchen cutting tasks as well as other tougher and or more repetitive tasks. other knives like the para 3LW don’t do it for me in the same way.

I bought the Super Blue Delica about a year back and was surprised how much better it was than the gear reviewers and YouTubers would tell you. The latest and greatest is a big part of what they do, so I’m not hating on them. But the Delica is like a Honda Civic. It does what it’s designed to do and excels at it, it’s built to last, and the price is right.

i mean, i agree that they can be found for better deals, but i still think it's a little crazy that the vg10 version is more than that. people have been complaining about the value of the delica for years. while i've got a newfound respect for the model this past year, i don't think they are wrong saying it's not the best value in its standard configuration.

How do you mean not the best value? What are you measuring? We work with a vendor in Japan that we've been working with for 44 years. They make our designs to our standards with our choice of materials at a very good quality ( Works well, works for a long time) They charges us a fair price. We add additional costs, shipping, packaging, etc. for on the shelf cost. We add our margins which we need to run a business. Don't know what you would change?

It's a serious comment and worth forum discussion. I like to know what you think.

The Delica 4 is my favorite knife. Great ergos, great geometry, great handle material, great blade steel offerings, great colorways. I have 2-3 of each variant I've bought - mostly sprints. I like to give them away to friends and family. My all time favorite was the SuperBlue Delica 4. I gave that one to my brother when he became a cop. I was greatly pleased to be able to buy another one when Spyderco did their exclusive in that blue/gray Zome handle which was also pretty neat. I think my current favorite is the V-Toku-2 one though. I love the k390, and I love the m4 and hap40, but the v-toku is just...perfect.
