Full handle knife

Post by RugerNurse »

Looking to try some new stuff for 2024. Love the delica platform because of the thin profile and love the PM2 because of the fuller handle but looking to try something for an everyday knife. Something with a full grip

The grip on the Lil' Temperance LW is a pleasant surprise. May not be your cup of tea, but I would recommend trying one out if you live near a brick mortar store.

Endura/pac salt is going to be the most familiar if you like the delica.

Personally i find the stretch2xl the most comfortable though.

What do you find not "full" enough about the Delica and PM2 handles? Not long enough, not tall enough, not thick enough, not contoured enough...?

Shaman.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Not thick enough. Thin handles are nice in the pocket but sometimes I like a thicker one.

Definitely check out the the Lil' Temp LW then. I think the Delica carries better, especially when fetching stuff out of my pocket, but the extra thickness in hand feels great.

- The Salt 2 actually has an a bit thicker handle than the otherwise mostly similar Delica that you like (the Salt 2 also offers a bit more blade / edge)

- The Tenacious is pretty handfilling as far as I can recall. Don´t think the handle is thicker than the "norm" but rather tall - and the Tenaious has thinner stock than the PM2 (and still a stouter tip and more cutting edge).
Will also be true for the larger and smaller variants (Ambitious, Resilience)

To me the S35VN Tenacious LW definitely is the "better PM2".

- And there is the Manix 2 of course. Also fills the hand really well, has not cutours in the handle, and in the LW version a bit chamfering and a completely closed back. And thinner stock than the PM2 too.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Polestar, choil-less, linerlock. Handle is superb, a shallower lil’ Temp/Caribbean.
Profile is similar to the Rockjumper but carries slimmer in pocket.

This reminds me again of the "Golden backlock Polestar" - see this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=92202 for example.

On hold though (at least I guess) till the factory expansion is finished, according to Sal in the linked thread.

I don’t know if it is a figment of my imagination, but the Rockjumper is a fist full of goodness when it comes to filling my fist compared to my delica. Mine are all at work, so I can’t easily check until I head in tomorrow, but it feels excellent in hand (Plus it’s a ludicrous bargain since it was disco’d - I have three in SE for work).

The rock/leaf jumper looks like a comfy handle. I’m want to try something new, I constantly end up looking at the same models.

Shaman

Pocket folder with fixed blade feel. Doesn’t get much more full-handled than that…especially if you’re good with the PM2’s size
Crucarta: Shaman (x2), Manix 2, Lil Native, Delica, GB2 & PM2
Notable: 52100 and Cruwear Millie. “15v-arta” Shaman. REC Manix. K-carta Endura, P4, Dragonfly and Delica.
Favorites: Shaman, Sage 5 lightweight, Sheeps Caribbean, Manix, Endela and all things Stretch

The Canis has a fuller handle and is certainly different. No personal experience beyond handling one at a store a while back though. Very nice piece, but not my cup of tea.

What blade shapes are you interested in that will best suit your needs? Do you like an index choil? Lock preferences? Spyderco has a wide variety of options
