Keeping an eye on these. Love my recon 1 spear point.
YES!
I have a couple in both XHP and s35vn (hollow ground as well as high saber) and MC would be a great steel for this knife but not @$260!

I’m assuming the Cold Steel Recon 1 with 4” MagnaCut Black Stonewash Blade, Black G-10 and Tri-Ad Lock for $259.99 is also made in Taiwan like the Cold Steel Recon 1 with 4” S35VN Black Blade, Black G-10 and Back Lock for $129.95? Why such a huge price difference? Obviously, the lock and blade steel are different.

Their prices vary a ton depending on who you buy them from.

4 max scout is $57.50 at chicago knife works, while it's over $100 at other stores.

3V SRK goes for under $100 a few times a year at midway, other shops charge over $200. DLT has them for sale right now for $220 while midway has them at $109.

If you shop around Cold Steel is an incredibly high value brand.

In 2023 I picked up their commercial series 10" chefs for $25 and it's better than the highly lauded victorinox chef knives.

I paid $30 for an SR1 Lite, which is an impressively smooth and stout 5mm thick triad lockback that's even beefier than my C95's.

$90 for a 3V SRK, the cheapest 3V fixed blade I've seen for sale and it's a 6" blade to boot.

$50 for a Spartan, a nice 4.5" blade folder with a stout lock.

$90 for a Recon 1 in S35VN & G10, which is still really strong but more practical for EDC than their mega folders.

All brand new from big name retailers.

Thank you for the full debrief.

The extent of my Cold Steel knives goes back to a couple from 2005-2006 and another couple from 2013-2014. I know the quality of the Taiwan made 4Max is pretty good. Currently, I’m not into folders with thick stock and blade lengths over 3 inches.

I may pick up two of the Cold Steel Commercial Series 10" Chef's Knife (German 4116 Stainless Steel). At Amazon they're $31.99 + sales tax but if you buy two you get 5% off.

If you get free shipping that's a good deal. They're $24.04 here but shipping adds $7.93, and it takes $100 to get free shipping.

I may grab a second when I order my FDE 4 Max from them.

Thanks.

For 2 of them (one for me and another as a future gift):

  • Amazon: $60.78 (5% discount when you buy two) + Sales Tax ($5.78) = $66.56
  • CKW: $45.68 (5% discount on first order) + Shipping ($11.88) = $57.56
I’ll probably wait until I can find more products at CKW to get free shipping.

Have yall seen the ZT0452?
I've seriously contemplated getting one.

I just found out about the Zero Tolerance ZT0452BLUCF with MagnaCut. It's available at BladeHQ and KnifeCenter for $304.00. The blade definitely says MagnaCut.

It’s the slimmest big folder and disappears in the pocket. I still have my 0452CF in S35VN and had others including 0452CFM390BLU (M390) and the 0452G10 (M390). These and other 0452 models were based on very limited editions 0454 (CPM-D2/Sandvik 14C28N) with gorgeous solid CF & composite blade and 0454204P (CTS-204P) which had textured G-10 & titanium for the Russian market.

Wow!!!
Man.....I still wish I had mine.
I'm gonna have to get one in Magnacut- it'll be my first Magnacut blade if I do.
Hey, you wouldn't happen to have any of the old ZT Hinderer models would ya? Namely, the 0392 Wharncliffe? That was my favorite ZT ever...and one of my overall favorite knives ever. Really, really wish I had held on to that 0392!!

At one time I had all the ZT Limited Editions and all ZT models but sold them off before the pandemic. I have a few regular production models left including the 0452CF.

PMP Alpha Beast has to be the thickest Magna Cut “Blade” although it’s more of a pocket folding crowbar. It a weapon, open or closed.

price aside that'd be absolutely hilarious handing that to someone when they ask if anyone has a knife.

For folders with MagnaCut stainless steel uncoated blades there are several in the under $135 price range and all made in the U.S.

  • Hogue Deka ($134.99)
  • Kershaw Blur ($124.99)
  • Kershaw Leek ($116.99)

The US-made Kershaw Bel-Air was recently announced. Looks like Kershaw is eyeing some of the Bugout's market share.
