it was a knife center exclusive around the time i started hanging out here. back then, they didn't sell out in minutes and end up on ebay before they even shipped. i actually had time to think about it before buying it.

Ladybug, are you in East TN/Western NC? Your pictures look like they were taken on some trails I know in the Smokies.

the manix 2 fits my hand so perfectly, it's hard to imagine the old mini manix could be any better. even the manix 2 backlock was just bulky enough to not interest me as replacement. of course, i'm kicking myself for not picking one up as a knife for hiking and camping, but i've got other blades for that and the manix 2 still works fine for those scenarios as well.

man this thread is old.
17 years old… Almost old enough to buy the new and improved version of itself. :zipper :grin-squint Based on the timing of it being revived, the ulterior motive for it being cherrypicked becomes clear too. Necroposting like this is usually considered spam or trolling but there are exceptions (double standards) sometimes.

It´s been a while since you made me envious the last time by showing your brown XHP LW ;)
Really the only Manix LW that could potentially challenge my beloved REX 45 variant.

Always love seeing it, and these pics are really breathtakingly (is this an English term?) good! :star-struck
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

the first was in my front yard in hawaii and the second was my favorite waterfall hike in hawaii. i do love the area you are referencing though.

I know but i will keep trying to get you hooked… :winking-tongue
About the blade stock indeed the 3,2mm is strong enough. I only mentioned it because people who never even seen or used the originals seem to condemn them to being inferior cutters while the grinds on this Manixes are extremely well done so you can’t really notice any difference. For example the tuff and the first techno really did suffer from there blade stock but therefore people seem to think all blades with thicker bladestock are worse but that isn’t always the case. They forget the grind is also a huge factor.
So when they call it worse for its weight i find it reasonable but when people mention it for performance i already know they never held one in there hands ever. :woozy

You´ll never get me as hooked as you are ;) - I´ll always be more a lightweight guy, as long as a folder is still solid enough for everything I throw on it (which, I think I may say, is a lot and sometimes a lot more than typical, urban EDC tasks).
Also, imo LW folders often times have better ergos (since they tend to be FRN/FRCP versions with their moe chamfered and contoured handles)

But again; I totally understand how super-nice and like super-"quality" a heavy, linered G10 Spydie can feel in hand!
In fact, I do for example like the balance and feel in hand of the "heavier", linered Endura better than the unlinered, similarly shaped Pac Salt.

Blade stock: I am not saying at all that 4 mm can´t still make for an amazing cutter!.
BUT: All things completey equal (exact same blade, blade height, edge bevel, steel...) but one blade being 4, the other 3 (or 3.2) mm stock: The former just has to be a tad more "wedgy" and a hair less "slicey", right?
So if the thicker stock is not needed for strength (or better lock up, or more comfort for a finger on the spine) - why not start with the thinner stock on a cutting tool?

So:
I absolutely can admire heavy, full linered folders with thick blades - and I don´t say that such when well executed can not show great knife designing skills.
But: It is still easier to design a solid, strong folder by utilizing a lot of metal, a lot of weight and a thick blade than it is to achieve that goal of a strong, solid knife but with a light handle and a thinner blade. As said: To me the latter is even more the "art of knife designing"

Anyway: We are really brothers in our passion for folders / Spydercos, and that we happen to prefer different aspects and details does not matter at all imo

I think ill need to buy some quality measuring equipment so i can make a detailed comparison between the old and the new one day. I believe everything you say is valid and correct. But because of the bladeshape difference between the Original and the Manix 2. I believe there is a possibility the 2 aren’t as far apart at the edge as one would think. Because if you lay them on top of each other you can see the blade of the original is higher and go’s more in to a wider spearpoint shape then the Manix 2 that seems narrower , and more leafy. What made me first notice this was when i put the blade of the manix 2 on top of the mini Manix and the blade was still clearly visible underneath.

But what you say above is indeed all that matters in the end ! ;) :clinking-mugs

There's something about thicker blades and heavier knives that just works well for some tasks.

I've been a big proponent of thin blades and lightweight folders for decades, but my EDC the past two weeks has been the 6.9oz, 4.8mm thick stock saber ground Cold Steel SR1.

In some ways it reminds me of the C95.

Sometimes that extra weight is nice for a cutting task. The knife does more of the work than my muscles because the extra weight helps it force materials apart without me leaning into it.

I find blade like the C95's and SR1's slice fine given a thinned edge bevel. My SR1 is about 15dps at the moment and it handles slicing regular cardboard and making feather sticks with ease.

A month ago I wouldn't have expected to be EDCing something like this, but sometimes experiences go differently than you'd think they would looking at on paper stats.

It can be easy to say "Well I know X knife would work better than Y knife for me because it has 1mm thinner blade, 5mm more edge and weighs 1oz less" but using the two knives side by side and actually getting them in your hand....well, sometimes reality doesn't match our expectations.

That reminds me, I need to email SNK about sprinting the C95....

sometimes it's a matter of comparing them side by side. my native doesn't cut as well as my manix. my manix doesn't cut as well as my delica. but, whenever i carry any of them, they all handle every job well enough.

sometimes i feel that a knife different from what i'm carrying might serve me better in a given situation. i'm never really upset about which blade i'm carrying though. in fact, i'd probably only feel that way if i was carrying a thinner blade or a smaller blade than i felt i needed. for example, i'd feel like i had too small a blade if i was carrying a dragonfly in a survival situation in the wild, but i never feel like my manix is too big a knife when i use it.

That is one of the few reasons i can not buy a lil Native. I like the design i think its probably one of the best small folders out there.
But it cost is so much and i fear i will hardly ever use it because ill take my mini Manix or c95 out of my pocket 99% of the time. And let it collecting dust in my other pocket :neutral
