Swords!

#1

Post by MacLaren »

I just received my very first sword. A short sword at at that. A Wakizashi by Swamp Rat Knife Works, a Division of Busse Combat.
She has a 16" long blade made of Busse's own CPM-3V - and she is magnificent blade steel. I'll post up some performances videos from Voodoo later ....
At any rate, I was just curious if anyone else here are into swords ?
Gotta say, I am just thrilled with this Wakizashi!
It's gonna a be a ton of fun to play with.
Just hope I don't cut me leg off with it actin like a dam lunatic!
Here's a couple pics. Would love to see what yall have as well.

I like "swords" having been trained in edged weapons 24 to 28 inches in length. I own a few long blades. Don't think they would be called swords though.

That blade that you have there looks very good! I think 3V would make a good sword steel.

Dawson Knives makes some great swords and I have been meaning to get one. "Our big 20% sale begins 12:00AM on Friday, discount code THANKFUL20"

Thanks man!
Yeah, I know - that was amazing- liked how it cut thru that bolt with no edge damage as well.
It's one of those things ya just can't put down - a lot of fun to play with

In some of the arts that I studied there was a method called Largo Mano. Those weapons were much longer, over 28 inches for sure, but the method can be used with a small 3 inch blade.

Busse Combat- or Swamp Rat has something special here. She hits like a Bastard! And just tough as nails too! She also cleans up like nothing happened! Think I may have mentioned before that this is the 1st sword of any kind for me. And man, am I glad I got it! It's just a blast to play around with. I really hope Voodooo makes a longer 2 handed counterpart.
That's about it....just wanted to report back on the performance side of things - oh, and the Res-C handle.it has really does take the shock out of heavy impacts. This little short sword is all kinds of wicked lol.....

Fellas, I'd bet good money that Sal & Eric could make one helluva sword if they wanted to. As much as Sal knows about the Japanese & their Steel, I'll bet they could make one of the best.
Would be awesome to see them do it...a Bataniku with a Spider on it....that would be super cool....

The closest I have to a sword is my condor dadao and cold steel gladius machete. I wrapped the condor handle with athletic cloth tape like they use for hockey sticks or tennis racquets. Wanted to get in on the carothers swords but funds weren't there. If busse had made this offering with a solid guard I would have been more interested. Wish I could afford a keffler.

I usually hold it in the middle of the swells. If I want to use 2 hands each grabs onto a swell.

Spyderco Darn Dao is a nice knife. I have one!

Could have a less tall tip; could be made out of 3V; could be 5 inches longer....but it is nice as is.

These are just some of my blades that I use in my Filipino martial arts practice. Talibung and Ginunting made by retired 2nd Lt. M. Prado.

Here are some of my other blades made by Damon Lusky (Who made Michael Janich’s Ginunting ). The green one is enlarged version that I had Damon make for me. So, it mimics my other Filipino blades.
