Top Steels and Scales for another Kapara sprint?
Re: Top Steels and Scales for another Kapara sprint?
I'd love to have a Kapara in s90v. I don't even care about the scales. Smooth scales are fine for me, for how I use/carry this knife.

Personally it doesn’t come into play during cutting (Kapara ergos are some of the best I’ve ever felt)JRinFL wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:16 amHelp me understand the request for a grippier scale material. Is it due to reduced or compromised grip strength? Does your job require lots stab cuts? Oil on your hands?
I find I have plenty of grip on the Kapara even with sweaty hands, but then my cutting almost never needs a stab cut or thrust. What is your use case that requires extra grip? I'm just curious is all, not trying to pick a fight.
It has come into play when taking it out of pocket (dropped it the only time this way) and it can feel less secure when closing with the typical compression Method (I get around this by closing it like I do a lockback when at work).
The Kapara feels like a “Fancy” Endura to me. And that is one of my favorite work knives so having a Kapara with similar levels of texture would be welcome but by no means necessary. I would just need a better reason to get another one, other than a new steel. (I already have the OG and 20cv )

A tool steel for sure, it would be great to see some a non-DLC 4V blade paired with a heavily textured Micarta
How about a Rex45 blade with wood scales, perhaps something like the KC Pakkawood...

How do y’all feel about revival of super old threads?
I just picked up a 20CV Kapara and now I’m wondering how I missed this knife when it was available. Can’t say that I agree personally about the comments on lack of grip, but different strokes…
Anyway, now I want to rally support for a sprint.
My personal choice would be I think unobtainable solid Superblue with a grey canvas micarta.
Who’s with me?

FRN would be great, but won't happen.
A linerlock would be great, but won't happen.
So yes, I am with you on (rough, textured) canvas Micarta!
Steel not THAT important to me.

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

S90V and colored G10(dark blue, dark red).

I’d love basic textured G10 scales in blue or a nice dark green. MagnaCut would be my my first choice for steel, but I’m not sure Spyderco is ready to import it to Taiwan yet. CPM Cruwear would be my next choice. SPY 27 would also work.
I don't get people who only carry one knife

Exactly as it is now but with S90V would be awesome.

S90v with a nice textured(not polished) micarta for me. I don't carry my kapara much because the slick contoured CF scales, while beautiful and comfortable in use, make it jump out of pocket and slippery to hold while closing. I think grippier texture on the scales could solve both issues.
Re: Top Steels and Scales for another Kapara sprint?
Red fat carbon with s90v
Re: Top Steels and Scales for another Kapara sprint?
Give it the DLT Red G-10 and M390 treatment.
Re: Top Steels and Scales for another Kapara sprint?
I'd go for anything other than micarta and S30V. MagnaCut and Blue/Green/Puprle Alutex would be best but an interesting flavor of FatCarbon and a nice modern, powder metallurgy steel like SPY27/S90V/CPM154/S45VN would also be nice
Re: Top Steels and Scales for another Kapara sprint?
I would very much enjoy one in Cruwear. Not really bothered what handle material it comes with, so long as it’s not grey (I really rather intensely dislike the colour grey). A KC smooth black G10 and Cruwear would be delightful.

Vanax and textured micarta or peel ply. Lc200n or h2 could work also.

20CV or Cruwear with canvas micarta scales.
SCARAMOUCHE!
