Help - washers for Civilian

#1

Post by ThatSpydieBitMe »

Hello,

And glad to make your acquaintance! New to the forum, new to Spydercos.

At some point, I had to take apart my Civilian to clean it up thoroughly - failing to get smooth action even after re-oiling it. Sure enough, the archenemy was identified in the form of some lint. Took the opportunity to switch to a Teflon lubricant - all smooth afterwards.

Today, same story - except that, like a meathed that I usually am not...managed to mangle somewhat the very "inner edge" of one of the washers. A tiny bit of metal that is, well, impossible to flatten. While initialy it seemed to work just fine...now, a few minutes later, the action is horrendous. Guess it was the orientation of the washer.

I'd very much like to send the knife in and pay whatever is owed for the work plus my lack of attention, but I hail from Europe and, while Lamnia shipped it w/o any issue to me, as a...civilian (heh) things would get more complicated. I was surprised that getting spare parts is, sometimes, not such a straight deal. Anyway - now I know.

I sent an email to Customer Support, but, again, after reading the thread at the top of the page I'm exploring, in the mean time, other possibilities as well.

One being trying some Endura spare parts - does anyone know if the washers are interchangeable? If not - does anyone know the sizes? I saw people discussing aftermarket parts so I hope I'm not breaking some rule by doing so.

(I have family in the US that could help me with the shipping if needed.)

Thank you so much!

I mangled a washer and ordered replacements from KnivesPlus. I bet you could order spares for both the Delica/Endela/Endura size
https://www.knivesplus.com/replacement- ... ndela.html
And the Manix/PM2/Yojimbo size
https://www.knivesplus.com/replacement- ... jimbo.html
for less than the shipping. One or the other is likely to be the right size.

Thank you, Richard.

I asked them about the Delica-sized ones, and their reply was "Unfortunately, the Para Military washers we have available will not fit for you."

Guess I'll just bite the bullet and order anyway. The price isn't the issue...rather the probable wait and disappointment 🙂. Of course, I'll survive 🙂.

I found custom-sized washers, in the mean time, of many sizes. Does anyone, by any chance, know the size of the washers?

Once again, Richard, appreciate it!

Impossible to flatten? I don’t believe that. If you have a couple pieces of smooth metal I would try putting it in between and tapping with a hammer.

Hi, zhyla. Thanks for the tip. I pinched the PB Delica washer while reassembling. It is possible to get the washer mostly flat, but not 100%. If no replacements were available, reusing would certainly suffice. But for $5.99 it's better imo to order a replacement and have extras*.

*Especially if it means I can justify buying another knife. I mean, I gotta make the shipping worth it, right? :cheap-sunglasses

The Endura-sized washers will set me back, with delivery, around 50$.

Customer Support hasn't gotten to me back yet - hope they will; it would be helpful to know the size of the washers before shelling out the money.
