My string of B&W photos should end soon... been stuck in the house the past few days.

A bit off topic, but this is the thread where I think that´s really ok from time to time (and quite often act like that

- I´d be interested in your thoughts on the Skeletool?
I had one in 154 cm AND combo egde (I think they don´t produce that variant anymore) and had a "weird" relation to it:
- Actually really liked the concept, the cool factor, the "being a different multi tool", the feel in hand and also to use it
- ... but found practically speaking it was not a good option for me: Since I always carry a decent Spydie anyway, the good blade steel of the Skeletool was nothing I needed (and I found the blade profile itself quite "unslicey") and the other functions of the tool were few and not optimal (pretty blunt pliers, not much reach with the bit drivers)
- So I found that additionally to my Spydie LMs like the Juice CS 4 or even S2 give me more functionality (in a smaller package) than the Skeletool (both have scissoirs, more "needle-nosey" pliers, the CS 4 also an awl, a saw...)
- So I sold the Skeletool in the end... but always when I see one I somehow miss mine, and want to grab and use one...

I don't feel too confident giving advice on this. First of all I'm by no means a sharpening guru. Secondly, most of my experience with the skeletool is from my days as a field engineer, i.e. before I knew anything about steels or sharpening at all.Wartstein wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 9:03 amA bit off topic, but this is the thread where I think that´s really ok from time to time (and quite often act like that):

That said, I used it a ton back then. It's a company paid tool (all my LM's are except a ST300 and a Rebar that I keep in my vehicles), so I never held back on the abuse. When you're somewhere off the coast of Africa, you need a pry bar and all you have is a Skeletool - that's what you use ;-)
I went through 3 or 4 Skeletools in those years, but always due to confiscation or lost luggage and have yet to actually break one.
For that type of use I liked it a lot. Easy to carry and quite comfortable to use as a knife (I didn't discover dedicated folding knives until many years later). The blade steel combined with the stout geometry is tough enough to be abused. It's also a steel that is easy to restore to a very bitey edge, so I really like 154CM as a multitool steel. I've never tried LM's S30V, but for this type of use (abuse) I've never considered it to really be an upgrade over 154CM.
But let's fast forward to today. To the real world. I'm not using my multitools anyway near how and how much I used them back then, and would trade you my Skeletool for your Juice S2 any day of the week. I've never tried a Juice, but they (and the S2 especially) seem much more in line with my current needs and preferences.
I think I would carry the Skeletool more if LM offered a wider range of the single ended long bits. That would mitigate the reach issue and make it a much more versatile tool. That's not where we are though. I can hardly replace the regular bits these days.

This, from the Pac Salt king?! I'm shocked.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

I like this knife, the calypso or the new caly4/calypso2 should have this type of configuration, + the all screw construction
