In SPY27 or Magna, this is going to make an awesome hiking/backpacking knife. (3.1 oz I think.) Outstanding on all of the following ratios:

Blade:Closed
Edge:Closed
Blade:Weight
Edge:Weight

Might be somewhat unwieldy in length for back-country needs, but has often been said, you can press a longer blade into short-blade use, but not the opposite. And I'll confess: Hiking with a longer blade gives me more confidence I can meet whatever unexpected challenge comes my way.

Where are these in stock? BladeHQ and Knife Center both still preordering.
See post above by Buddafucco.
Oh, buying direct from Spyderco? No thanks, Spyderco has worse prices than literally any retailer.
Not for those with opfocus 😉

I'm tempted, but I’m going to wait for the spy27.

Or using that code from the deals thread if it hasn’t expired yet.

I couldn't make it through the video. Was the discount good?

They can’t undercut the retailer or no retailer would carry their product. Pretty typical relationship across all products.

However, we do know it will be at retailers very very soon … YAY!

What? No that is not normal. Spyderco sells direct on Amazon at street price (would not be surprised if they use a separate fulfillment company for Amazon sales). Benchmade sells direct at MSRP (10% more than street price). Spyderco.com selling at 43% over street price is absurd. Which is fine, no reason to buy direct.

I assume they price it this way to minimize their direct sales. Very odd you’d explain this in terms of undercutting as they would have to lower their prices significantly to even be competitive with retailers. I used to work at a company that did direct sales at street price and even did sales sometimes and we made so much more money selling direct per unit. Retailers take a large cut.

Great that they take care of the OpFocus crowd but otherwise, it is absolutely insane to buy direct.

Spyderco has stated in the past that they do not sell directly on amazon. The “Spyderco” storefront was not created by Spyderco nor is it currently operated by them.

cycleguy is correct. They do not sell at MAP because they do not want to undercut the independent retailers selling their products.

I watched the video, but it was also posted directly in the thread; no video required. I didn't check the prices of everything, but thought the discount was very good, enough for me to buy a bunch of things to check out.

I have made a purchase on Amazon also, but was a bit worried about a potential fake. So, I verified the seller was listed on the Spyderco dealer page. The default seller wasn't found, but I swapped to another seller that was listed.

I'd sure like one in a tool steel. 4V or Cruwear. The only stainless I'd currently buy is Magnacut. I have to say BD1N is a good stainless and super fun to get sharp but I already have a lot of knives like that.

Yeah, I’m really banking on GPKnives doing their Rex45 and white FRN thing.
Their Native 5s were priced so well.

As would be another St. Nicks 4V treatment for the LW Chief.... (the G10 version already got just that)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Can't wait for the SPY27 ! Really enjoy that steel. I know people told me I should try BD1N again (only had a Manix LW and it chipped a lot, even after 2 reprofilings and a couple of sharpenings in between). Maybe both are in my future then ;)
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.
