🎃 Halloween movie recommendations!
It's that time of year! List your favorite Halloween time movies and recommendations/comndemnations. Anthing goes, as long as it's spooky, scary, or relevant!
For me, I have many, but most recent I watched same pretty good ones:
Nefarious (the death row inmate/possession one) is one of my new all time favorites. It's all about acting and nothing about gore/CGI. It's so well done.
Oculus: has been around for a few years, but I only recently saw it (I don't watch a ton of movies or TV) but it's another well done movie that made it to the list of movies that I actually bought. It did have some gore and CGI, but the plot and acting was awesome.
The Pope's Exorcist: based on a real person, it was definitely good. Lots of CGI and gore but fun nonetheless
The Crucifixion: excellent movie, really excellent, another based on a true story. If you like possession movies (as I clearly do) you'll love this one.
New remake of Pet Seminary: it's rare that I say this, but I think it was actually better than the original.
Some of my favorite cult classics:
Poltergeist
The Fog
The Shining
Sleepy Hollow
Rosemary's Baby
The Omen
John Carpenter's Vampires
John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness
Rob Zombie's Halloween

If you can accept foreign-language movies with English subtitles, I would add:
Gonjiam Haunted Asylum (South Korea, 2018)
Kairo (AKA Pulse; Japan, 2001)
Infection (Japan, 2004)

HEREDITARY
I've watched many horror films, TV shows, and read a few novels as well. The film Hereditary is hands down the scariest film I've ever seen.

Great mention, Bdubs808.
I forgot to mention that one. IMO, it's probably the best American horror movie in decades.

Re: 🎃 Halloween movie recommendations!
These aren't "horror" films but they're still creepy and disturbing and are good options if you don't want a traditional horror film on Halloween:
"Se7en"
"Jacob's Ladder" -- The original version with Tim Robbins.
"The Silence of the Lambs"
Or if you want something a bit lighter: "Hellboy" -- The original version with Ron Perlman.

They're relevant, they count!! All great choices, but not Hellboy for me. I hate perlman with a burning passion.rangefinder wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 5:20 pmThese aren't "horror" films but they're still creepy and disturbing and are good options if you don't want a traditional horror film on Halloween:

Re: 🎃 Halloween movie recommendations!
Frankenstein, Deagula, and stuff made before 1950 was good.
Re: 🎃 Halloween movie recommendations!
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
Also Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.), and the Invisible Man (voiced by an unbilled Vincent Price).
Some great special fx including animated Dracula to bat transformations.

Re: 🎃 Halloween movie recommendations!
I'd say anything before 1960, because the '50s gave us Them!, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Forbidden Planet, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and many more.akapennypincher wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 8:09 pmFrankenstein, Deagula, and stuff made before 1950 was good.

Re: 🎃 Halloween movie recommendations!
I always liked some of the 1950s-era British Hammer Studios horror films, such as:
The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas (1957)
The Horror of Dracula (1958)
…and the Hammer Frankenstein films of that era.
