We’ve not long returned from the most beautiful city in the world, a trip to celebrate my daughter’s 21st & graduation.

Very nice. Looks like a great trip. And congratulations to your daughter.

How crowded was it? I've been to Venice a couple times, and I've encountered everything from 'not too many people' to 'wall to wall people' (during carnival).

Thanks, Tom. I hadn’t been for about 15 years, my daughter, never.

St Marks Square & the main paths up to the Rialto were generally very busy in the middle of the day, but it wasn’t a crush by any means. I think ticketing technology and timed tickets has reduced the lines I saw before. Mornings, evenings and away from the most central parts were far quieter, sometimes empty. Wasn’t particularly smelly, either…

The big cruise ships were banned in 2021, apparently.

You may have seen Francesco De Mosta’s history series on Venice (BBC 2004) - if not, it is well worth seeking out. He’s a Venetian architect who’s family have been there for a thousand years or so.

That's great! Congrats to your daughter.
I've never been, but my wife has. I always thought it would be a great trip.

Wow.

A place I'll probably never get to see in person.

So beautiful.

Gorgeous photos, thanks for sharing!

I’ve never been to Italy (the closest I’ve ever been to Europe was Massachusetts 😂), but my mom and my aunt traveled in Italy with a tour group back in the early 2000s. They had a wonderful time. She always talked about the Amalfi Coast in particular.
