....would add that MagnaCut, CruWear, M4 or S35VN (all of which have been used in Spyderco/Sakai folders recently) could also be excellent options in this configuration.

The older Delica grind was referred to as a "saber" grind (despite being hollow ground bevels, rather than flat), it sounds like this will have a significantly higher hollow grind than that ...especially since the saber grind is still available.

The added interest is in how that higher grind will interact with the tip geometry. If the blade shape was a leaf or drop point (think Caly3, Centofante 3 or UKPK drop point) then it would be easier to pull off without thinning the spine near the tip to the point of being too delicate, but the straight spine on a standard Delica 4 doesn't have the right shape to accommodate a really high hollow grind without thinning the spine above the tip by a fair amount.

Either way the goal is for wicked slicing, not stabbing hard things, so it'll do just fine with a thin tip, it just remains to be seen how thin it goes.

In my opinion the current K390 Wharncliffe is THE high performance Delica. It is already ground thin with a laser-like tip, I would not want it any thinner. Not to mention the excellent tool steel. What blows my mind is that it is being discontinued and on discount...

It’s too bad that it seems to have met with weak acceptance in the marketplace.

I’m still looking forward to the HP Delica, though..

While I certainly don't begrudge S30V folk their love of that steel, it's really not suited to a high hollow grind geometry like the knife under discussion in this thread is rumored to be sporting, or any edge that has bevels much below 30 dps for that matter. The Nilakka was a case in point, with the zero grind variant having unacceptable edge durability (mostly fixed with a 30dps secondary bevel, though still not particularly rugged).

If you were hinting that standard Delica performance would be higher with S30V instead of VG-10, then I guess I see where you're coming from, although I'm not a huge S30V fan myself ...now S35VN, I'd go for that.

Yeah, seems like wharncliffe fever is largely confined to AFIs and a subset of AFIs at that...
While I like the cutting performance of my Delica wharnie (HAP 40), it definitely doesn't beat the standard D4 for everyday carry in my use case.

Hopefully at least a few models will retain a wharncliffe variant, so that those who prefer them won't have to go without, but the "Great Wharncliffe Purge of '23" seems to have been pretty broad
