Counterfeit Delica 4?

Hi all,

I bought a Delica 4 from amazon. It turns out it was fulfilled by amazon but sold by Spectrum Unlimited. The price was probably too good to be true, maybe someone can help. The knife looks pretty good, but it's my first Spyderco so I don't have a comparison. Besides the price, there are a couple possible red flags to me. The box had no UPC on the end flap, just a sticker on the back. The box says "printed in China" on the back. And the biggest one to me: the "Edge-U-Cation" insert is for a Ti-Mil Military Model with a titanium handle and S30V steel. Clearly not what I ordered.

Sorry for the long story. What do you think? Keep it, or send it back as a fake? Thank you.

Welcome to our forum. It's tough to say without seeing the knife. If possible, please post some images and let us know the price you paid. If you have a link (if it's still on Amazon), that might help too.

Ok. I added some pictures. The knife was $50. I know sellers sometimes drop their prices dramatically for a short time in order to get the "buy now" box on amazon, so I thought I just stumbled onto a great deal. It just seems a bit fishy. Thanks again for your help.

I'm sorry, but I would recommend returning that. There are several red flags. Unfortunately, I believe you have a counterfeit.

I'm not Kristi, but the first thing that jumps out at me are the tang stamps. Or in this case, the markings on the blade tangs that don't look like they are stamped into the steel.

I noticed that as well. I'm not sure, but it's possible that she doesn't want to help the counterfeiters correct their mistakes by listing all the red flags.

Thank you both. I guess I'll send it back and make sure I'm buying from someone legit next time. Might go with K390 next time too.

VG-10 is perfectly fine also. Yeah, for $50, you're not too far off, might as well go full legit. The knife will last you a long, long time.

I just don't understand the logic behind making counterfeit spyders. If these people put half that energy into making their own knives they might actually have a brand that people appreciate and could be proud of themselves

There is a lot of money in copying a good design. Over here, I can buy Delicas and Dragonflies, and Paramilitaries in colors Spyderco never made, and cheap too. Sometimes I can find them under $10 USD.
