Golden factory expansion

#1

Post by unified »

Any word on the progress being made yet? Very excited to see what's in store once it's all up and running. Not intending to pry or ask for TMI, but I am curious what kind of capacity difference there will be after it is completed as I can't remember reading about it anywhere. Hoping everything is going as smoothly as possible given the current state of everything.

Best of luck to Sal, Eric and the rest of the crew!

The last I read was that they hope to have opened in 2023. I don’t remember if there have been more details released.

We're all looking forward to a successful Golden expansion. Just wondering how much more increased capacity is projected.

I'm curious to know how much more machining capability they will have...

It's obvious that Taiwan has superior machining capability. I hope that Spyderco is investing in the future, and the ability to bring more intricate designs to market out of Golden. I hope that expansion means capacity + capability.
So it goes.

FYI, Golden has increased it's production every month for the past year.

They have done great, it’s so hard to find the production sweat spot. All I know is after a short wait I was able to order a Crucarta PM2 for you this weekend. Pretty excited.

Yeah, that’s a pretty impressive stat to throw out.

Here’s to continuing that trend! The Golden Spydies are my favorites.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

In just over a year's time, I hope to come and see the expansion for myself... :smiling-heart-eyes

Planning to see my first grandchild due in January 2023 in LA, and a trip to Golden would be, well, GOLDEN!

Saving up for some edged goodies as well, I hope? :cheap-sunglasses

It would be interesting to get an update, now that we are in the second half of 2023! Any news?

Actually I have to say that my favorite production site is Golden. Because they made some significant progress in the machining precision in the past 10 years. Now every golden knife is crispy clean machined and I honestly do not need Taiwan anymore. So I am happy with the expansion at Golden.

If I recall correctly, the SFO retail store will also be moving. It will be in the building at the top corner of the property, on Avery Street.

Again, if I’m remembering what was told to me correctly, the red building in the center of this screenshot will be the new SFO retail store. (The street view map doesn't seem to be up to date from the other side.)
