Potential for other models to come in 15V

#1

Post by msum »

Hi all,

Apologies if the link doesn’t work or isn’t allowed.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvXjxP-M ... BiNWFlZA==

But it seems to add weight to suspicions that 15V will see future usage…

From my very ignorant point of view, it would seem to make sense. After all, a fair bit of R&D must have gone into it.

But I assume we wouldn’t see models for years.

A 15v native 5 with a compression lock would be cool but I know that isn't gonna happen till **** freezes over 🤣

Slightly disappointed that Spyderco didn't make a thread like that here in the forum...

But I guess from a marketing standpoint, it makes sense to post the question in social media like Instagram and Facebook where there is a larger sample target audience compared to us forum members. What we may want here may not translate to what the majority of Spyderco fans out there want, and an majority-unwanted knife might lead to poor sales even for a desirable sprint.

I’d think the Military 2 is a prime candidate. There is no Maxamet equivalent in a blade that long due to warping. Assuming 15V doesn’t suffer from the same issue, it would sell well. LW models out of Golden also make sense.

My vote, assuming it will be limited again to Golden models would be the entire Native line starting with the Native 5 in linerless G10 in that brown.

Seems all but inevitable for Golden models. My 15v experience hasn't been the eureka-moment that K390 gave me in the P4, but that could just be related to where I'm at more than the steel. 15v is clearly a hot seller and would likely sell out in any popular model. First Military2 sprint? Why not ;)

Forum seems a little ignored lately vs social media. Posted to social media first on the second sale. Spyderco posted the video explaining the box on social media and never in the forum.

The 15V heat treat has been well received. Guessing the standard Gas laden models “should” follow. I’m holding out for the Native 5 and Para 3 as 3” blade is needed by a few. Military would sell as well.

We can fix that.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Like I said, I completely understand them from a marketing standpoint. In that Instagram post alone, they managed to get 3,853 likes plus 242 comment responses and counting within 10 hours. That translates to roughly about twice of a standard batch of sprint run units. The information gathered could translate to better data for decision making regarding what model would sell well in the next batch of 15V Sprints. But on the other hand, yeah, we share the same observation.

Thanks, I cast my vote there. Although my personal opinion was that it would have been better if Spyderco themselves also conducted a poll here, instead of limiting it to social media outlets. I would also like to reiterate that I completely understand the move on their part.

If it can be done, please make a huge run of 15V Spyderco Native Chiefs. I'll buy at least 2 to 4 of them if allowed to do so. To me it would be the folder of a lifetime.

15V is more than 10% better in cutting potential than S90V. I have been carrying an S90V Spyderco Native Chief since they hit the market.

The S90V Spyderco Native Chief is hands down the best folder that I have, and I have collected a ton of knives and stick to this observation. Making the Spyderco Native Chief in 15V is what any good knife collector calls for!!!

I don't carry a firearm for self defense, I carry a Spyderco Native Chief!

I can’t recall a Spyderco person ever polling the Forum for its preferences.

I think Spyderco’s practice has been to watch the Forum (Sal certainly does), not least for polls launched by members, and to take action as the business deems worthy.

Some would say it’s high time Spyderco make use of social media. Its (unprecedented?) 15V-centric request-for-comments on Instagram suggests we need to be alert to that platform, at least.

The addressable market of Spyderco customers is astronomically larger on IG (or insert some other social network) than whatever we can muster here on the forum. We are a dedicated bunch, probably deemed a bit crazy by some. But, for the most part, we've already drank the Koolaid. It doesn't take much to convince one of us to buy a Spyderco. The interactions on the forum and on social media won't align. And that's perfectly fine by me. I'd rather have the cordial welcome from Sal or Mike, the Talking Stories, the insight from Mike about his designs, or the general friendly attitude I find in the other forumites.
