Boltaron sheaths and Paracord

#1

Post by Tvrdy91 »

Hi everybody! Newbie here, caught the bug for the spy 27 off of YouTube. I’d really like to practice different para cord wrap techniques on a blank, and I’m very partial to Boltaron or Kydex. Has anyone else had experience with the factory Boltaron sheath and a para cord wrap? Will a knife that doesn’t have the G-10 scales attached fit the sheath snugly?

Just tried a paracord wrapped mule in the factory Boltaron sheath and it retains fine. *Possibly not quite as well as with the scales, but if I shake it upside down the knife doesn't fall out. The molding of the sheath indexes on the quillion/ricasso/guard just behind the sharpened portion of the blade, whatever it's called. The Paracord wrap doesn't affect that.

If you wrap your mule thicker than the factory Halpern scales then you might run into some fit issues, but you'd have to do double or triple wraps.

These both retain just fine. The straight spine sheath was actually really tight and had to break in a bit.

I think, technically, it's called the 'uvula.'

Thanks, look up Yablanowitz's guide here in the mule section and it's pretty straight forward to do.

He def put together a great tutorial for all of us.
