I've misplaced my wharnie DF2 somewhere, so my backup will see me through the final leg of this workweek.

I'm quite sure the DF2 will turn up somewhere eventually, so I'm not too worried. And with backups like this, capability isn't impacted at all. It's a welcome change more than anything.

I know!. It popped up on ebay and I did a BIN immediately. The seller said the scales are from TITECH. I tried to find them online with no success. This thing feels and looks like an absolute GEM! Very pleased even if I paid a bit much. Thank you!

Still truckin along with some serrations. Waiting for the aha moment. I think I'll pass on reprolfiling it. I'm about 12-16% complete with that project. Resharpening on the other hand is not bad at all. Actually very nice. The platform, still a winner.

I don't know. My first SE. I have been carrying it exclusively for almost a week. Just trying to see if there is any advantage to me. I'm going to keep carrying it for awhile to see if it changes my preferences.

I'd compare it against a coarse edged plain edge knife if I were you.

A lot of people insist on SE for certain tasks, like zip ties that you mentioned. But giving a PE knife a coarse edge makes it work great for materials people gravitate towards SE for, such as plastics and rope.

I can see why they'd feel that way if they're comparing a 4,000 grit PE knife to SE, but comparing SE against a 300 grit PE knife is a completely different story.

Another thing to consider is edge thickness. People comparing stock PE to stock SE knives often forget about the fact that factory edges come ground twice as thin on SE. Then they mistake the advantages thin geometry presents as inherit to SE itself, rather than a property of the edge thickness.

Comparing a 40 degree PE knife given a high polish, VS a serrated knife ground at 20 degrees, will give very biased results.

Comparing two knives ground at 20 degrees will give much more accurate results.

Vivi, as you will know these days I am all SE...
but exactly this is something I always wonder (and I do point it out almost every time I praise SE):
- I can´t tell indeed how much of the (for me) better performance of SE is due to the teeth themselves, and how much to the much steeper chisel grind. Might be a lot due to the latter, and I´d love to compare a CHISEL grind PE knife with the same steep geometry to the usual chisel grind SE knife.

Two things SE imo does "better" than PE in any case:
- Penetrating tough matter with the "spikes" much like a knife tip would to better initiate a cut
- Protecting the actual edge inside the scallops and so keep the knife sharp for a longer time in my experience.

Oh, yeah no high grit finishes here. I have neither the equipment nor the patience. I definitely prefer a coarser edge and have read through your thread. Interesting enough, the Endura I am comparing it to most of the time is around 15DPS. I am guessing this Leaf Jumper is around 17DPS based on where the SM 30 & 40 slots are hitting.

I have been using your video on sharpening SE and let me say it really simplifies it. I am currently very satisfied with the results based on that method.

Anywho, it has only been a week, so no real opinions yet. I am taking it a long trip with a PE Pac Salt for backup.

It can be fun comparing them head to head. That's one of the things I enjoy about my carry today. I can test out either edge type on the same materials with the same handle and get a good feel for which edge type works best.

Typically I keep the serrated part polished up to fine rods, and the PE part sharpened to 260-300 grit.

I could stand to go a touch thinner with the PE bevel.
