Can we get a Ceramic Detent Ball?

#1

Post by Dazen »

I don’t know if this would be a difficult/expensive change, but can we get some Golden models with a ceramic detent ball?

It’s just that now that my CRK Inkosi is broken in it has the most satisfying detents of all my knives. There is no way to really describe it unless you have tried it.

I would love all my Spyderco knives to feel the same way, but I don’t know how feasible this is.

What do y’all think?

Cqi Chef and Caribbean have ceramic detent balls.

I also had the ceramic detent ball on one of my caribbeans break. I dont think steel would have broken like that.

It's easy and cheap to replace them yourself, for what that's worth. I do it on all of mine.

I have a ceramic detent in both my Kapara and GB2, so I guess Taichung uses it already. I'm pretty sure my Resilience S35VN has it as well. Also I recently handled a PM2 S45VN and I'm pretty sure it also had a ceramic detent, so maybe it's already in progress?

On the other hand only the Resilience was a new knife straight from a store, so maybe all the rest were modified?

I flicked it closed and the blade tang sheared off the top of it. (I think)

Thanks for the link… I’ve not seen that before. Did Spyderco fix it?
