Subjective Question

Post by mongo1958 »

Subjectively, what is your favorite Ergonomic knife? For me, there are two, my Shawman and my Manix2 LW. :thinking
Edited for clarity.

Objectively, .....

Very SUBjectively imo ;), but:

- depends a bit on for what I use a Spydie for (I assume this is "just" about Soydercos):

I think one can't fully judge the ergos of a knife by just holding and not really using it, and then there is a difference between "lighter" and "harder" use - concerning comfort, stability/"locked in hand-ness", potential hot spots...

- That said:

If fixed blades also count: My Enuff 1 had the best ergos.

Folders:

- The Stretches (1, 2 and XL) have amazing ergos, imo though optimized for actually using the thumb ramp as such when not choking up. Slightly less good in a hammer grip.
Choked up the "1" beats the "2" and XL for me with its short, shallow but wide radius choil.

- The Endura has the best overall folder ergos for me when NOT using the ramp, but putting th e thumb on the flat of the blade or the side of thr handle.
Very comfortable, secure and not likely to shift or roll at all for my L to XL hand.
This is true for lighter and harder use.

- The Manix 2 LW fits my hand tight, but still perfectly, very locked in.
Great for lighter to medium use, when really bearing down on the handle the corners of the "handle spine" start to become hot spots.

- I had my Rockjumper SE only for 6 weeks or so, but recall it had great ergos too.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Sorry for immediately making this about vocabulary but do you mean “subjectively?”

Are you just asking what everyone's favorites are, based on ergonomic preferences?

Spyderco makes a lot of knives that I find comfortable in hand. They do ergonomics very well, so to speak. The Native 5 in particular is one that I’ve always felt to be near perfect for my hand.

Personal favorite would easily be the PPT Perrin. It’s my favorite Spyderco for a number of reasons: overall design, blade shape, ergonomics, etc… I find it to be really comfortable in hand. The scales plus liners are relatively thick compared to other knives and it really fills the hand well. The corrugated G10 pattern in not overly aggressive and it’s contoured as well, which in my opinion adds to the comfort in hand. I find a lot to love about the PPT! :bug-white-red

For me it's the Endela, Rockjumper, Sliverax, Domino, Sage and a Mule with custom scales.

Military for me. The large handle allows use with gloves and there is plenty of room for a variety of grips. The slight negative blade angle keeps your wrist at a comfortable angle for longer use.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

For me the Manix 2 has always seemed to melt in my hand. The Ayoob also is on a different level for me. I just started playing with a Shaman and for a larger folder, they’re on to something with those 3d scales.

Lil’ Temp 3 LW. Fills the hand quite well and the lack of finger grooves means it works well in any grip.

Yes, it was clearly a mistake on my part and it was edited for clarity.
I had to look the PPT Perrin up. It has a unique blade and handle.
Thanks

I didn't answer earlier for two reasons:
1. I'm not the grammar police.
2. Everyone knows it's the Manix 2.

Oh man! The Domino looks amazing. It looks like a frame lock and flipper.
The Rockjumper seems popular, I often see it descused here.

I have XL to XXL hands and the Shaman handle fill the palm giving me a solid grip
I don't know much about the Ayoob, although they seem interesting.
