Surprising that nobody seems to have suggested the 4.5 poly utility knife. I wish spyderco offered a sheath for it.
I always come back to lightweight and cheap-enough-to-lose when backpacking, because both qualities have value.

A full-size folding bow saw is also nice to have. I can't imagine using any knife for the things a real saw can do.

i think we need a leafjumper salt. it would probably be the winner for me in this category.

Hope I'll be able to snag a Junction one day, but they're far from a common sight on the secondary in this part of the world.

I'd like to expand on my original recommendation (UKPK) by adding the Enuff 2. My wife has one and it's surprisingly light for it's blade length. It also cuts like a laser thanks to the thin stock and broad flat grind and carries efficiently because it is so light and thin.
