But, who knows, he may dislike at stainless steels?
I wouldn't think so. Every knife design doesn't come in every steel and the M4 GB2 has been a fairly successful knife.

I'll enjoy mine - you guys carry on :)

i was actually willing to try it, but if cruwear is getting rust spots on me, m4 doesn't have a chance.

I really need to get one of these and slap some micarta on it.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

It really is much improved with micarta. I'm really unclear why it got the faux carbon fiber treatment. I put the green camouflage* ones from SDK on mine. I saw JSumm's maroon ones and had to have similar!

*Most, if not all the camo is sanded off. It just looks slightly mottled vs the straight green scales.

Edited for clarity.

I'm trying out the food safe EDCi Formula from Aegis Solutions. Trying to see if I can prevent pitting of M4.

I would love to put on some custom wood scales, the GB2 looks amazing with them. The current CF scales don't do much for me.

I picked up a hunk of Ebony wood from my last trip to Ghana that I would love to use. Has some very pretty heartwood and sapwood in it.

i hate the look of the cf/g10 scales in stock pictures. in hand, they're not so bad at all. still, the gb2 needs micarta, in my opinion. it doesn't look right with cf to me. it's like putting a shirt and tie on a welder and putting him to work.

I guess that's what makes a horse race. I have plenty of black G10 scales in different textures, and I like the GB2 CF scales better than any of them. Strange how different tastes can be for such things.

Safety tie, anyone?

I was fortunate enough, some months back, to find one in new condition at a great price that had already been upgraded.

Love it.

The 1 is so much better than the 2 in regard to ergos and ease of closure

The 1 must be great...but in truth, the 2 with the micarta scales is very comfortable in my hands...and I don't find it difficult to close. Maybe I'm just lucky or have callouses in the right places.

Well I just got my GB2 in the mail and wow this knife feels good in the hand and looks good. You can tell this thing was made to be a user. I look forward to putting this thing through its paces and hopefully getting a nice natural patina on it. Also, shout out to the very helpful board member that helped me locate where to grab one up at!

Im with you on that. I really enjoy the cf scales on the gb2. I think they look great and i prefer them to micarta or anything else ive seen. They also feel excellent in the hand with a perfect amount of texture (to me).
Some of the wood handled ones are gorgeous though i have to say

I would like to find some scales like that for a PM2 - I think it might look great with bronze clip and hardware.
I do get that some people don't like how thin the handles are, and any time you have to use your thumb to open a knife the ease and comfort depends on your skin, thumb, dexterity, etc. My Advocate and Schempp Bowie are **** to open, but for some reason the GB2 is easy.

^^^^

Thanks. :cheap-sunglasses

I'd been on the fence for a while, but when I saw it offered up at about what I'd pay from an online vendor...I couldn't resist.

It may be worth noting that not all of Gayles knives are in m4. In fact, I don’t think any of his fixed blades are in m4. Even the nightstick is in s30v. So I don’t see why using a different steal would be an issue. But, seeing that they cant even keep the m4 ones in stock, spyderco doesn’t really have a reason to change it up.

if the knife is that popular in m4, imagine how popular it would be in magnacut. although, if spyderco drags their feet any more on magnacut than they already have, the market will be too flooded by other companies and it won't be new anymore. consumers are fickle and will lose interest before spyderco makes this steel available.
