Polestar fake?

#1

Post by JRigby »

Hi folks. This was sold to me by Amazon directly. I started noticing small imperfections. Is this a fake or standard Chinese quality?

Here's a link to my google album with descriptions on some of the pics. https://photos.app.goo.gl/BrkvwfZ6WuFFgBC89
The frame is slightly uneven. The lock doesn't engage unless you add some wrist flick when opening it. I can't really do that at work. The edge grind seems to stop before reaching the tip or blade shoulder. The blade shoulder and jimping on the spine are not perpendicular to the edge/spine. The jimping on the frame is very different on each side.

I realize this is a chinese made model and I shouldn't expect the quality of a US made Spyderco, but I need to know if this is counterfeit.

After a lot of fidgeting, the liner lock is working correctly now. I guess it just needed to wear in. All the other things aren't really an issue because they don't affect functionality. I can fix the edge centering when I resharpen it the first time.

I doubt there are fake Polestars, so this might be one built by a tired worker. Amazon makes exchanges easy, so I'd request an exchange.

Also, welcome aboard!
