Yep. You did misinterpret all that exactly as you just explained. Good job for realizing it. Apology accepted!

When I bought my new McLaren 720S Spider (not Spyder), I didn't like the wheels. I bought some aftermarket wheels from Pep Boys, but the brake calipers interfered when I tried to install them. So I tried to remove the calipers, but had to take off the axles, too. When removing the axles, I broke the bolt that holds the transmission cover plate. I removed the transmission, but the YouTube video I was watching was for the 2022 model. I couldn't take the car apart any further, and I couldn't put it back together. So I loaded all the parts onto a flat bed truck and had it delivered to the dealer. But the customer service guy wouldn't fix my car for free under warranty, and he wouldn't even install the new wheels. He clearly doesn't care about me. He's mean. I'm crossing him off my Christmas Card list.

:zany :squinting-tongue :worried

Did you try to get it fixed for free under Warranty? Or did you offer to pay all the applicable fees and charges just to have him fix it at all?

See the huge glaring difference?

Also comparing wheels on a several hundred thousand dollar McLaren to a couple of plastic knife scales on a $400 knife is like comparing a Nuke to a firecracker.

But thanks for your input.

Um... sorry for midleading you. The story was written in jest. I don't drive a McLaren, and if I did, I wouldn't buy wheels for it at Pep Boys. Nor would I just indiscriminately take it apart. Nor would I deliver a pile of parts and expect someone to fix it for me. Everything in the story is the opposite of how I roll. But sometimes I take risks and screw things up. When that happens, sometimes the only solution is to get out my wallet, peel off a stack of Benji's, and try not to shed a tear. There's a Spyderco group on FB that allows buying and selling. I'm sure someone there will have a knife to replace your broken one.

My apologies mate. I sensed the sarcasm haha but a lot of the messages today have been rife with sarcasm and a touch aggressive from the fanboy enforcers….. so I’m a bit defensive at the moment I guess. Blawh lol

I will also blame my lack of knowledge regarding Pep Boys not being top tier on my Canadianism. S’il vous plaît, pardonnez-moi. Haha

If someone were to shop for aftermarket parts for a McLaren, at Pep Boys...they shouldn't have a McLaren :grin-smiling-eyes

Don't fret irontriangle, this is a good group. Believe it or not, Evil D is one of the best and most knowledgeable we have here!

I'm late to the conversation but welcome to the forum, irontriangle.

Glad you got some ideas for your problem and don't pay too much mind to some of the rudeness, it isn't the norm, but hey, it happens. The key I've found is to not really care what random people on the internet treat you like, but you already seem pretty thick skinned so that's good.

Hope something works out for you and hopefully the rest of your time on the forum will be a bit more pleasant. :grin-big eyes

Personally, I would wait for one of those liner delete scale makers to come out with a conversion for the lightweights. I really hope Rockscale Designs makes that move. I bet they couldn't fulfill those orders fast enough.

Hate hate rude people. Just today went to the carpet store with my fried chicken coupon for 2 free thighs but they tried to tell me they were a carpet store. I checkmated them with I'm the customer and I'm always right.

Their reply was just rude.

Whatever you say Peter Pan. If you’re the definition of grown up then I must be pushing over a 100 years old in your fantasy land.

I get it. Projecting is a good way to cope. Don’t worry buddy. Things will get better. I believe in you!

Hi Irontriangle,

Sorry for your disappointment. There are many reasons that you may not be aware of that makes your request overly difficult to achieve. Cost of labor, taking a crew off of something they do in production, changes to the parts, all of which says "custom". We are a production shop and we've learned over the past years that some things are just not in our court.

I imagine you can find a custom maker that can and will do your task, or as you said, wait until the proper solution comes along. But generally speaking, We are sorry that we could not service your desires in the way you wished. It's beyond the scope of what we do.

Thanks Sal. Yah I should have checked Spyderco policy before trying to change it myself. I saw new Manix 2 LW were the screwed CQI version and that just got me excited haha. Figured if it did break, I would just get some readily available scales for it…… which don’t seem so readily available after the fact.

I’ll probably just get a new Maxamet Manix 2 at some point, discounted or not…. When the CQI version is back in stock and save the components of this one for when an aftermarket scale that fits is released.
