1) There's folks on here who'll drop 5K in a weekend on knives so not much of a flex.

2) You want them to build something that doesn't exist because you want it. Time to adjust your expectations and contact a 3rd party modder.
Not flexing lol. Just trying to show I’m loyal to Spyderco and not some one time buyer asking for a handout.

Also…. The Maxemet Manix 2 LW with screw construction does exist. They sell all the LW Manix 2 models with screw construction vice the rivets now. So basically I was trying to build something that does exist….. and keep my same knife blade that has many miles on it and I like.

Cheers.

He has 15 knives and he acts like it's a lot ;)

I know it's a lot to them and they're not cheap but that's nothin' compared to most on here. He's just getting started

Just so everyone is clear. I didn’t put the responsibility on Spyderco….. or demand anything of Spyderco. Some of these responses are kinda dense.

This is my first warranty issue and I never thought before trying to mod my knife that it would be a big issue to get new scales.

I'll tell ya what's dense.... breaking a knife, thinking it has anything at all to do with warranty issues, refusing to understand that they can't/don't sell parts and don't feel like it's safe or reliable or whatever the reason is they don't want to do what you think should be a simple thing (and then arguing against the people who literally designed and built the knife but you know better), then thinking that just because you've spent a lot of money on their knives (which of us hasn't) that it entitles you to special treatment and they should do something for you that they wouldn't do for anyone else.

The densest material on earth is Osmium. Just below that is this sort of mentality.

I’m pretty sure you won’t have been the 1st person trying to mod the Manix LW to destroy it!

When you Frankenstein it, you might even find you prefer the g10 over the LW scales.

1. Osmium
2. You

None of what you said is anything that I did…. But keep trying. I don’t feel entitled. I asked them what my options are and they responded of their own volition.

And it seemed like more of a policy thing than a not working thing. I guarantee if I plug my blade into a new Maxamet LW it will work.

Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to write a totally useless comment. Talk again soon.

Yes…. I have almost 20 Spyderco. I am not mentioning Benchmade, Leatherman, Swiss Army, Kizer, Urban EDC knives, etc etc……

That is a lot of mula to 95% of the population, including myself.

Thanks to everyone for misrepresenting my comment as some sort of flex, vice giving some backstory as to what me and the warranty agent spoke about.

Cheers

Yah man. I watched countless videos, went out and bought all the necessary tools, set up my station, and was good to go.

It was all going good but one of the rivets was stubborn and when I pushed it cracked the FRN.

Ah well. I tried and now can give opinions to others who venture to try it…. Although they won’t have to know because all the new versions are with the Screws.

Probably worked out better for me in the end. Even if I don’t send the blade in and take advantage of the 45% which I might not. Not sure yet. I could just wait for the after market scales to be readily available and then I will have exactly what I want. A Maxamet 2 LW which I can take the blade out to clean once and a while.

Take a breath everyone. Relax.

Not everyone knows that Spyderco does not sell parts until they find out the hard way. If you have dealt with other manufactures who do provide parts for sale, you too would be surprised at the hard no you get from Spyderco. It's been explained in the past, and I understand the why, but even fans can be in disagreement over the policy.

Let's all try to use the better angels of our nature.

Geezus you’re hostile. Never once complained. I have had experience with toxicity in forums before, but you my friend are making my first post here in the Spyderco forum a memorable one and a great example of how I won’t act going forward when someone seeks advice.

Cheers.

Ok, maybe I've somehow misinterpreted the way you pointed out that you've spent $5k on knives, already asked customer service, got told no because it can't be done due to CQI, but didn't like that answer so you came here looking for the answer you want or for Sal himself to step in and give do what you want. Customer Service are just being difficult telling you it can't be done due to CQI, but you are certain it can be. I guess I misinterpreted all that as being entitled, and I'm being hostile about it by calling it the way it sure reads out to be. You're right, I'm sorry for being hostile. Good luck.

Don´t think that "everyone" did, right?

Actually (just read the first replies) there is also quite some advice, quite some explanations, quite some understanding for that you´d like to further use your trusty blade, and also perhaps some misinterpretation / misunderstanding, which can happen when people are enthusiastic about something... :smirk ... not worth to further get into quarrels imo.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

Yah man. I’ve ready every comment and appreciate all the good ones where people helped out. I have some really good ideas about how I’m going to move forward.

The Manix is one of my favourite platforms due to the lock system….. so I don’t mind getting one or two more to fool around with.

When I bought my new McLaren 720S Spider (not Spyder), I didn't like the wheels. I bought some aftermarket wheels from Pep Boys, but the brake calipers interfered when I tried to install them. So I tried to remove the calipers, but had to take off the axles, too. When removing the axles, I broke the bolt that holds the transmission cover plate. I removed the transmission, but the YouTube video I was watching was for the 2022 model. I couldn't take the car apart any further, and I couldn't put it back together. So I loaded all the parts onto a flat bed truck and had it delivered to the dealer. But the customer service guy wouldn't fix my car for free under warranty, and he wouldn't even install the new wheels. He clearly doesn't care about me. He's mean. I'm crossing him off my Christmas Card list.

:zany :squinting-tongue :worried
