someone must've heard this is the last spyderco vivi wants so they won't release it.
lookin forward to the military 2 also. wonder which will drop first?

I'll basically be done buying knives after those two, another aogami super gyuto and maybe one more aqua salt back-up.....at least until they come up with something new to suck me back in!

this thread is pushing two and a half years at this point. I can only care for so long.

I was so excited when this was announced.

I'm sure it's frustrating for Spyderco, too.
It's an exciting model.

If I remember correctly, when it was first available for preorder it was listed for ~$130 at online retailers. Now it's ~$138. I'm curious what it'll be this coming year. As someone who still cringes at having to spend over $100 for a knife (I know I'm cheap 🥺), its getting harder to justify my knife purchases as prices continue to climb.

I'm too cautious to try the Swick 6 and risk the hole being too small for my finger.

the price increase bothers me less than seeing three variations of the same model launch a minimum of half a year before the version I'd like to purchase.

I can think of no legitimate reason to release the serrated version of the Swick 5 and not the plain. They surely use the same sheath. What in the world is the hold up?

i can't understand how it can be so hard for a knife company to source a sheath. lots of small edc knives have molded plastic sheaths that work great and cost very little. i bought a crkt spew with a molded sheath for $100 less than the swick costs. esee sells izula sheaths for super cheap and they're really good.
the swick sheaths we've seen so far don't look like anything special, so i don't get the hold up either. i know there have been issues getting them out that are fairly personal, but at some point you have to just get it done or pay someone else to get it done. it can't be good for business to be sitting on a stockpile of knives that you can't sell.
and i agree it's weird that they would release everything else but that one model. a lot of this doesn't make sense. i suppose it doesn't have to make sense to us though.

Glad I'm not waiting with bated breath I'd have passed out years ago. At this point I'm just hoping it launches in time to test one out this farming season.

I'd dare to say the 3 Swick models that were released in 2022 must have seen a rather limited release, quite likely just a domestic US release, as European dealers don't even have a placeholder for these knives yet. Not a single clue to suggest any of them expect these knives to be incoming at all.
Like many others I was looking forward to get one of these, but something obviously didn't go as planned, some of it we know, but maybe there's more. No worries on my part, it's only knives. I hope Spyderco can work it out and start making some money on this project, eventually. Maybe we'll even see the return of vivi, once the Swick 5 PE is finally available in the stores?

Given that Magnacut is being favourably compared to LC200N re: corrosion resistance would it be suitable for a Swick? I know next to nothing other than that it's the hot new steel on the block (and I'm very behind on these sort of things). IMO the Swick is great platform to test steels in more demanding contexts- especially anything to do with water or horticultural activities, both of which are great tests of corrosion resistance & edge retention.

Looks like Swick 5 PlainEdge may finally make it to US dealers soon — just shy of 3 years since it was announced in Reveal 5 on May 5, 2020.

Awesome, thanks for keeping up on this guys.

I've loved my serrated Swick 5 but I'm really looking forward to the plain edge given this knife's mission.
