G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
Which spyderco model in G10 do you think has the best chamfering and why?
I will Start: I think the siren has the best chamfering of any G10 spyderco, it’s smooth around the edges especially so in the area for the index finger. It reminds me of Seki spyderco models.
I think it would be awesome treat for the hands to see the G10 variants of the Manix 2, as well as the PM2 with similar smooth well radiused chamfering.

Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
I agree with you on the Siren. The chamfering is very well done on that model. The recent Ayoob sprint also has some excellent chamfering for the flat feel they were going for. On that model it works out very well.
Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
They are discontinued now but of the ones I have I would pick the G10 Lil' Temperance 3, G10 Endura and Police 3.
The Cruwear Ayoob and the St Nick's 4V Military are my best current model Spydercos. You can always chamfer the edges yourself but it's nice when the factory does it for you.

Does the Shaman count? If so…
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

The Siren is great; so is the Stretch 2 XL CruWear.

I'd say the Shaman is contoured, not chamfered, but I get your drift...
For chamfering, I'd go for Military, Sage, Spydiechef, Pits, Pakkawood Delica, Watu, Caribbean, GB1.

Would the FRN seki models be considered contoured or chamfered?Brock O Lee wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 9:57 pmI'd say the Shaman is contoured, not chamfered, but I get your drift...

Chamfered. There are exceptions, but Seki FRN scales are most often flat FRN slabs with radiused corners.electro-static wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 10:50 pmWould the FRN seki models be considered contoured or chamfered?Brock O Lee wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 9:57 pmI'd say the Shaman is contoured, not chamfered, but I get your drift...

I appreciate your understanding of nuance in mechanical design. I wish i had mentioned that I feel that the Radiused G10 of the siren should be on every G10 model! No more boxy hot spots!Brock O Lee wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 11:49 pmChamfered. From my limited experience I'd say the Caribbean. There's some very impressive attention to hotspots around the compression lock.
Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
I honestly can’t think of a chamfered Spydie I own that is not suitably done. By “suitably”, I mean having enough softening of the right-angled edge to be comfortable.
In the spirit of the question, though, I think my Schempp Kris is the most carefully and artfully chamfered, even if the in micarta, not G10.
I hasten to add that chamfering comfort is not independent of overall handle-size and -shape wherein hot-spots can also lurk.

The Ayoob has a really wide chamfer on it. It's one of the most comfortable models as a result.
Looks like the stretch 2 XL cru-wear has the same chamfer.

Seki G-10s. Far and away the most comfortable chamferings of the different factory makers.
I wonder why Golden G-10s aren't as chamfered.

I think the widest chamfering/bevels I've ever seen on a G10 handle were on my Rock Lobster. They've gotta be around 1/8 inch.

What a Beauty. I really wonder why more golden models don’t have edges like this.wrdwrght wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 12:27 pmI honestly can’t think of a chamfered Spydie I own that is not suitably done. By “suitably”, I mean having enough softening of the right-angled edge to be comfortable.

Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
As opposed to beauties like this one, I think that Spyderco’s standard workaday designs emphasize a lessening of torque (by way of slab scales) over a lessening of discomfort (by way of more than minimal chamfering or even radiused scales). I think the comfortable-for-me PM2, with its minimal chamfering, captures this idea perfectly., even if minimal chamfering also saves some production costelectro-static wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 10:40 amWhat a Beauty. Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
As a woodworker, I’ve always made the distinction between a radiused edge and a chamfered edge. Historically, a chamfer is a small flat bevel cut to soften an edge where a radius is a rounded arc cut to soften an edge.
Re: G10 Chamfering, which model has the best?
I take your point, Bill. The Kris is indeed more round than flat at the corner. I guess I was reserving the radius idea for whole scales, like on the Shaman.
