Re: Which Cru-Wear to buy?
I have three models in this steel and like them on all accounts . If I didn’t have them the Endela would be hands down be my first choice, price point to the steel is too good to pass on . If not happy with the steel performance you will have a small investment. MG2

Aargh, you all make good points. Thanks for nothing. ;-)
I like the overall Native package. But I agree that it’s hard to argue with the Endela pricing.
I must confess that the black coatings get to me slightly… But I probably prefer DLC to TiCN… Anyone care to speculate further on upcoming uncoated releases?
Is smooth G10 really that bad? Chews up pockets less, I guess. Is it possible to add texture to it (using the right respiratory and skin protection, of course)?

Re: Which Cru-Wear to buy?
I have an older satin CruWear smooth N5. While there is no arguing the texture (or lack of) provides less "grip" than say, FRN, it has never been an issue. Now you see why I am so tempted by the blacked out version.msum wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 2:40 pmAargh, you all make good points. Thanks for nothing. ;-)

Without any doubt the new C-60 Cruwear Ayoob Sprint. If you can still find one in either edge type I would pounce on it immediately. You simply can't go wrong with either edge type. It's already in my top 3 Spyderco favorites of all time. Every aspect of that Cruwear Ayoob is nothing short of pure elegance. Ask anyone here who has gotten one.

For better or worse, too specialised a blade for me.

I’d go for the DLT Endela.
I’m holding out for a Stretch, but gosh darn I like that Endela.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

How’s the TiCN coating and how’s the Seki City heat treat on Cru-Wear…?kennethsime wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:09 pmI’d go for the DLT Endela.

They probably make me less enthused about the Endela. But the price cannot be argued with, as has previously been discussed in this thread!

No idea, but I’ve owned about 10 Seki-City knives and they’ve all been fantastic. I assume that Spyderco still knows what they’re doing here.msum wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:16 pmHow’s the TiCN coating and how’s the Seki City heat treat on Cru-Wear…?kennethsime wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:09 pmI’d go for the DLT Endela.

Re: Which Cru-Wear to buy?
smooth G10 is excellent. it feels really good. it looks good. i have the para 3 in this combo, and can say it offers effectively no practical reduction in grip in my experience despite its smoothness; it's not slick, it's not a baby seal, it's not made of KY, it's not a fish in a '30s cartoon, it's plenty secure and you have nothing to worry about as is. i cannot understand any objection to smooth G10 that isn't purely subjective/aesthetic or based in something other than experience, because imo practically/concretely there are effectiely no downsides unless this is your go-to knife for opening bags full of olive oil next to the mariana trench. in which case i might suggest a salt.
in other words, get the dang n5 because i'm chomping at the bit to myself despite no, and i mean no, good reason to. ****, i'd trade my para 3 for the n5 if kc would let me

In my use, I find smooth G-10 to be quite a bit slicker than peel ply G-10. If there is a finger choil on the knife (ie, it's a design that really 'locks in' to the grip, eg, PM2, Para 3), then it's *much* less noticeable. If the handle is more ergonomically generic (?) and the handle is smooth, I need to hold onto it tighter.

You just have butter fingers and bleasure has a grip of steel!
Seriously, though, thanks for the input.
I’m thinking of pondering over the coming week or so, then maybe buying the KC Native 5 if it’s still around. I figure I might then still have the Endela to fall back on… Not literally, as that may be painful.
Re: Which Cru-Wear to buy?
Danke schön
That’s cool. Is that a Dutch edition, only? It’s still probably too big for me!
I’ll have to check out the other photos from the meet.
I enjoy your Aardman Animations avatar picture. An excellent final chase scene. Amazing how much the penguin looks like a chicken - what a disguise.
