which models would you like in a smaller version?

#1

Post by rooster81 »

Knives I'd love to seen shrunk down by about 10-20% or so:

Manix Two

Smock

I just prefer a folding knife to be under 3 inches. Are there any other knives you all would like to see miniaturized?

I know this is a want and not a need because the folks at Spyderco give their customers the best selection of models and steels of any knife market.

Thanks!

The Sage 5 is close to a mini-Manix IMO. And the action on the LW version is out of this world, truly without peer.

Well, not my kind of thread since I tend more towards wanting models in a LARGER, not smaller version ;)

- Some time ago I perhaps would have mentioned a "shrunken Police" here, since this looks to be a great model, but also to be a bit long in carry.
The Stretch 2 XL gives me kind of this now though.

- I´d also like to see a "Lil Military" (the original, not the "2"), so basically kind of a linerlock PM2 with the more minimal finger choil.

- Concerning a "Lil Manix", let me repeat: Generally YES, since I´d really like to see more CBBL models, regardless of the size!!
A smaller Manix though would have to get rid of the "hook" at the handle end. Nice on the current Manix, but on a smaller version it would force larger hands to use the choil, cause the "hook" would restrict handle space too much. I am with Sharp24/7, that the Sage is a lot like a Mini Manix, but actually DOES get rid of the "hook" at the handle end and offers instead as much grip area as possible. So a "Sage 6" with a CBBL or more of the Sage 3s would be nice and close to a optimal Mini Manix.

-
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Because answers to this kind of question will be all over the map rather than concentrated on one particular model, I’d rather Spyderco make its own decisions based on its considerably more acute reading of market preferences and jurisdictional matters.

I’m sure they’ll do that anyway, it’s still plenty valid to ask such a question out of curiosity.

I’m certain Sal would agree with you.

My EDC sweet spot is 3.25" the Mantra's and Ikuchi fit in there but not many other Spyderco.

So rather than wanting shrunk or enlarged models, I just want to see more of the 3.25" blade utilized.
So it goes.

Manix (e.g. chaparral with a CBBL). The chaparral is the best back lock I've tried, but a CBBL version would be cool.

Atlantic salt or caribbean sheepsfoot. I have a use for blunt tip knives but I really don't need one that massive.

Bug. Because it'd be funny.

I would like to see a smaller CBBL knife, but more "conventional" than the P'kal. I do think I'm more interested in something totally new rather than a scaled down Manix 2.

The lock on the chaparral is IMHO the best back lock Spyderco makes. I would like to see some larger Taichung back lock knives use it. I think it'd be great if that was something that resembled a G-10 Sage 4.

However, I am really really happy with the vast majority of the Spyderco things which I have bought. While I might post and ask for or politic for new Spyderco things, the Spyderco things I have now been superb and I am thankful to have them.

Hundred Pacer and Native Chief.

Alternately, a no frills Sage 4 backlock in FRN would fill the gap between the Native 5 and Native Chief.

Wow, yes! So, like a 50 pacer…though that suggests a more powerful venom and therefore an increase in magnitude, so maybe actually a 200 pacer?

Now I remember that "mid sized Native" - so a smaller version of the Chief (and a larger of the Native 5 at the same time).

The thread below has some comments about what a smaller one might be called :smlling-eyes
