Siren Sprint S90

#1

Post by Fharing45 »

Mail call today, my new siren s90 came in. Comparing side by side with the black and blue liner one, everything about this new one is an upgrade.
I love the look and feel of the new carbon Fibre. The s90 is unbelievably sharp with the new 17 degree angle I sharpened to. The weight is a blessing. I can't find a single flaw in it. I will update as I spend more time with it. Simple perfection. Thanks Lance and spyderco. :bug-red :bug-red

I almost fell off my chair because I mistakenly thought you found a Siren sprint for $90.

I should get a new pair of reading glasses :grin-sweat

How is the texture of the CF sprint compared to the G10 of the base model? Not too slippery?

The g10 texture is coarse, but if my knife was used on fish or animals I will use the g10. The new carbon Fibre has a medium texture and is non slip.
I will try it tomorrow with slippery food stuff. Lol but so far it's much more comfortable in the pocket and on hands.

Finally got time to reprofile mine and have been carrying it. What a knife! Lightweight, great ergos, and wow yep that S90V takes a wicked edge. The carbon fiber feels “dry” and grippy- awesome for EDC though I’ll be taking my LC200N version when I go fishing,

OK this morning while fixing my wife breakfast I smeared the carbon Fibre
Siren grip with butter before using it. I found to my surprise that I still get a good grip and no hand slippage. There is just enough texture to shed the butter off, and leave good hand traction. This sprint is a great looking knife, with the black highlights in the logo and spider, and certainly another homerun in my book of great spidies. :bug-red :bug-red

Thanks for doing this for "science" ! ;)

(actually not kidding, that's valuable info you gathered and shared. For me definitely more Interesting than if the blade is centered or the edge bevels are even).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Ok i reprofiled my siren to 15 degrees per side. I left a coarse edge 400 grit diamond and lightly stropped each side.
Wow that edge has grab. Today at work i tested on some 5 ply thick carboard gaylord boxes. What i learned was the coarse edge cuts along the whole angle as apposed to my polished edge where the cardboard collapses causing drag on the cut. After 18 inches of cut i still cleanly cut paper and it still shaved hair. Scrape shave.
I love S90. :bug-red :bug-red

Always planned on buying the LC200N version, but a french mate was trying to sell is brand new S90V Siren for a couple of months. So... I bought this one :')

It's just an excellent model. Cuts very well, I'm happy to have S90V since it holds edges for very long, a LC200N version would grow too fat BTE for my taste pretty fast IMHO.

I don't have it near, but here's the only picture I had on this PC.

Not quite everything. I like the splash of color the liner gives the original.

While i like the blue liners of the original, the new carbon fibre scales are fantastic. This makes the sprint one of the nicest to pocket carry.
Your hand slides by the cf without the abrasion of the g10. This should be a serious contender for my edc knife.

Panicking a little about the Siren being discontinued, now deciding whether to order another G10, or a Sprint S90. I love everything about the original Siren and was surprised that so many find the Carbon Fiber S90 version to be so much better.

Just to reminisce, here's the 'old' Siren with a similar oldie but goodie:

I recently got a siren s90v. The carbon fiber is outstanding! The handle fits my hand better than any folder I have ever handled. What really impresses me is the light weight and the quality of the build. It looks and feels like an expensive knife. Which it is.

Sure, the carbon fiber one is the Domino, a Ti framelock. The grey G10 one is the Baby Horn, coming from a sprint run (but I don't know when it came out).
