Might be better to have them put their username on the poll, that would easily flag the duplicates and also people may be having others complete the poll also

I voted. Thanks for putting this together, Bolster.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Houston, we have a problem.

I just pulled the raw data, and one respondent has managed to find a way around Survey Monkey's one-vote limit. Don't know how they did that,
From my survey experience, all someone needs to do is open a survey in incognito mode in Chrome and they can re-take the survey over and over again. I assume that's what happened.

It's a good idea--for someone less lazy than me. I didn't want to endure the additional hours of tedium matching forum user names, to names on the survey. (There are of course ways of gaming the names, too, and you'd need to name-match to the forum list--and even then, you'd have to take things on faith.) I am using methods that flag duplicates that are reasonably efficient, but it does require a data download and manual work. This also preserves some additional anonymity, which I appreciate in a poll. There are also methods of analyzing trends that throw up red flags, and I'll be watching those too.

Of the scores of polls I've run, this one I would put in maybe third place for drama. But it's all good, no worries. Thanks for your concern!

Hmm, only third place for drama…

Based on data thus far, I voted with the majority twice and on the other two points, I did not.

I’m still happy to purchase one or two. Which puts us a long way off 1000!

Thanks again to Bolster for propping this one up (and stopping it from splitting…?). Sorry, cannot pun.

We should really not expect 1000+ members voting, few frequent the forum on a daily bases. One may judge relative interest with such a pol, but not absolute numbers.

It would be interesting to see how many members have been on in the last month of the 31k users. Is it even the 1k required for a win? But I assume the poll is open to guests as well?

On question number 3 I'd prefer "Spyderco Forum 2024" since it's obviously a knife. Just like the GEC Beer Scout Knife is dumb and just Beer Scout would be far better IMO.

Yes, poll open to guests, but only advertised on this forum. One early suggestion was to close the poll to guests, members only, but that would result in lower numbers, and for this knife to come to fruition, we'll need higher numbers. AFAIK, anybody can buy a forum knife; I don't think you have to prove forum membership to buy one, do you? If I'm wrong someone will correct me, but I asked this question in another thread and the implication was "shouldn't have to be a forum member to buy." Obviously anybody can buy them when they inevitably hit eBay. I will ask again to see if we can get a solid answer. If anyone knows, post up.

Anyone can buy a forum knife from Spyderco. Forum membership is not required.

Why aren't there any more mainstream survey options, or even anything locking?

It's typical for results to get fairly stable when you have >200 responses, and we can see that the proportions aren't changing much from tally to tally. The "no buy" proportion is increasing a little, as less frequently-visiting forumites weigh in. Here's results from Feb 16 (duplicate votes removed). Since the valid n is above 200 I'm going to propose closing the poll after it's run a week. Looking to close on the 19th of Feb.

Also: I send both raw & de-duplicated results to fellow forum-nerd-ite JSumm, EWE (Excel Whisperer Extrordinairre), who checks for errors. So you've got two sets of eyes on the data for twice the validity, twice the unpaid time-on-task, and twice the nerd factor.

Hi Bolster.

Thank you for taking on this seemingly thankless task, especially as you are not into slippies. I guess at least that will make you inpartial.

I did the DAMAUKPK project a few years ago, and I remember it sucked up a lot of my time and patience.

We never got the DAMAUKPK exactly, but I think that was due to unforeseen events Golden and Global. I have the Urban and I like it a lot.

I have wanted a spy27 in blue for ages; it feels like it will be an absolute classic. Is it G10 scales or the frn ones?

I still wait in hope of the day when I can get the real deal DAMAUKPK but I know Sal has a lot on his plate at the moment.

;)
