We act like a bunch of little children

#1

Post by Grinch »

OK, from my nick it seems i am new in here, but i remember reading a post about 2 weeks ago how great this forum was.

Since the whole forum knife charade took off (i am not talking about the first posts) this forum has become like a playground for little children. We even need a grown-up (Kristi) to lock down threads, because some members behave like little children.

Because of the misuse, my enthousiasm about the forum knife has diminished to a state of , let the dogs fight for it and we will see what's left after the battle.

It's time for the senior members to step in and draw a line ( jd spydo, J Smith, dialex, vampyrewolf, DAYWALKER, AllenETreat, The Deacon, java , The Deacon,Ted (and his Dutch Buds) CKE, Dr Lecter, Senate, Sia) They have been here a long time and shown a lot of maturity and common sence in the past.

Posting counts have no meaning at all since some forummembers tend to change their identity due to certain reasons, and others can accumulate 1000+ counts by using this forum like a chatroom.

I would like to appeal to everyone inhere to stop engaging in yes/no endless debates.

I would like to ask to certain members NOT to impose their toughts about THEIR perfect forumknife on the rest by being very vocal and have a high profile in these threads. (especially using large fonts, wich i consider rude)

I would also like to make an appeal to the members not to bring in international politics like the Jewish/Palestinian problem inhere. We are a multicultural group, and one of the few that seems to stay coherent because of our common love of the :spyder: .Debate's on International politics has it's place but not at this forum IMHO.

Let all these useless debate's please die out and let's behave like grown-ups.
If a member asks not to use foul languauge because his or other children have access to this forum we should have respect for that.

Please set aside all your personal frustration aside for a while and give this forum a small "time-out" to ease the tension.

I might sound like an old f*rt, and probably are, but the row has lasted long enough. If we can not come to a consensus about the forum knife, well Sal with all respect, don't make one then.

I will not engage in any more "polls" and wait what the final result will be, if any.

Untill then let's behave like grownup's or Mummy ( Tazkristi) will spank our butt!

Some of us have been around a LONG time - like me - and just ignore the banter and raving. Eventually the fat floats to the top, gets skimmed away, and you're left with delicious gravy. I've been a member for YEARS (can't remember when I joined, the forum was just new) and all I can say is, leave it alone and it goes away. In the end, the true are still here. That's why I've been somewhat absent. The gravy needed to thicken a bit...

With all due respect, did you come up with that over the past 2 weeks, or under some previous ID here?

Do you think we need someone who has been here for 2 weeks to tell us what all our problems are and how to solve them. I personally think that's a little presumptuous on your part. Those of us who have been here for much more than 2 weeks are well aware of the problems, and if you think it's possible for "senior members" to "step in and draw a line" I'd love to see how it's done. Sorry, maybe you mean well, but a "lecture" isn't the solution.

David

p.s. If you've been here before using another ID, why hide?

Very well put.
You just posted what I have been thinking sence Monday.
I came very close to leaveing this forum, even removeing the shortcut from my desktop but after thinking it over I have decided to wait and see if the trolls will ever disapear.I have several on my ignore list and I made up my mind that if I ever think that someone needs to be put on it I will never take them off.
I even started a thread somewhere else about interest in a Spyderco forum on that site(I should not have at least not before asking Sal about it first)It did show a good bit of interest. The main reason I did it was because that forum watches its members very closely and what happen with the forum model posts would have never happened there.
I tuely hope that things get better and please do not respond to these people that are causeing the trouble.

I always have a hard time really understanding these posts.

What is the point of them? Is it really that big of a deal?

This isn't a private forum. This is a company's public forum about its products. Any forum is going to have some people that don't mesh well with everyone else and some people who join just to cause trouble.

I personally don't see what the big deal is. I've rarely seen anything on this forum worthy of stress. If you don't like something, don't read it. The forum has an ignore function. If you don't approve of what a member has to say make it so you never have to see a post from that member again. If this all fails you have the ability to go somewhere else.

I see the off topic forum as a place to discuss whatever. It's a good place to build a close community with the regulars since it allows the discussion of different topics. Some of these topics may be controversial, but I believe they should be talked about if there are people who want to talk about them.

Again, if you don't like what you are reading, stop, and do what you think you have to do.

I don't know what people expect from the forum and it amazes me that they allow it to bother them so much.

If you haven't noticed, I read a LOT more than I post.

Even with me being on holiday for a month between work and school(cashed in 23 days on aug 2nd, school starts sept 6th), I don't post as much.

As it typical with spring/summer, the trolls multiply. It will go back down to the core of our community in the fall, climb a little over the winter, and the cycle continues with the spring and a new group of trolls and trouble makers.
Not just with our own community, but across the entire net. Welcome to reality. Seasons come and go, members come and go(some even come back to us), and nothing really changes.

Unfortunely, short of a mod/admin(ie sal, joyce, kristi, carlos) coming in and banning ppl, we can't do much more than make the choice of ignoring or converting the members who bring this community down and make the attempt to create positively contributing members.
Coffee before Conciousness
Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.

The thing I hate most is when you have someone on your ignore list and they pop up in a otherwise very interesting thread and other members have responed to thier troublemakeing it makes the whole thread very hard to figure out.
Best thing for everyone is to let these people post but act like they are not even there.

Well Forester i have been an active member before the "new forum" started, i have seen Sia's Tat, "the butt row", i followed CKE fight with cancer (and chipped in for the knife ;) , and i was there when the fact that Kurt had a row on BF about his forumname. Do you remember the Bladeforum war?
I know Ted has a moustache
I know he works in the smallest office space i have ever seen.
I was here when Samo got married, and he used his dodo on his brother-in-law.
I used to post on the MBC forum along with Mike Yanich
Vinnie's shirtnumber is 77
Simona has great toes, and very beautifull eyes (picture taken from above) ;)

So let's say, i've been here for the last few years :D
