Would be nice if there was way to get email notice when it are back in stock, and available out of factory store.

Seems like a reasonable and sensible request. I would venture to guess that their current website software lacks the feature. Hopefully, it will be added in a future upgrade.

And, oh, BTW, existing staff has only so many cycles per day/week/month.

So, adding cycles to keep the likes of us alert to the new may require adding to headcount. Customer conveniences come with costs.

Be careful what you ask for…

Should be a feature, but also won't be fast enough for high demand items. We already see this with every other vendor online. Once you get the notification that it's in stock and act on it they're usually sold out.

It's more like their existing systems for inventory control, web services, etc. are not designed to interact. In order for them to have a notification service, there would need to be a way for the inventory control system to tell the web app that product sku X is now in stock. Doing it by hand would be less than sane. I'd be surprised if their IT and/or web services team is insourced, but not impossible. So new headcount might not be needed. That said, like everything, there is always a cost associated.

I still think that the request is reasonable.

Can’t disagree, but I watched a company where i worked put in a management-information system (which is what the integration will become) take a few years of consultants coming in to rewrite and expand (after significant testing) the software the company’s IT department had been limping forward on. So, significant headcount actually increased by way of enormous consultant fees. The pain is in the details.

And the cost of the company’s product—surprise, surprise—got passed to the customer.

All costs get passed on to the customer which is why it is critical companies work to keep costs down, but sometimes you need to spend more $$ upfront to have lower costs going forward. Thankfully, I'm not the one who needs to make these decisions.

The company my wife works for is doing a massive conversion from an old system, actually systems, to one new system. Utter disaster. Due to the market they are in, they cannot pass on the costs to the consumer easily. Looks like another loss to write off. Tales like these keep companies from moving away from something old that still sort of works.

I mean, this is a pretty DIY crowd, so maybe somebody could write a web scrapper (1)(2).

There are already plugins to Chrome and Firefox that will do the job for you. It takes some user effort to set up the scans properly.

Every retailer has this feature. Why not just order from BladeHQ, Knife Center, etc, etc, etc?

i'm guessing he's using the opsfocus discount. there's almost no other reason to order direct from spyderco because you pay msrp.

try calling. there's been plenty of talk here about their customer service in the past and the consensus seems to be calling is what works best.

Working in IT myself, specifically in the area of websites and e-commerce, I can assure you there are plugins/extensions for any halfway current e-commerce platform that interacts with inventory management systems, websites and email integrations.

I think they just focus on knives more than site feature requests.

Well as I have friend who actually writes, and fixes programs. What seems simple is sometime lot of hours of work.

Not like flushing toilet, simple task if everything goes right.

Further inspection, looks like they're using a custom cart. Wouldn't be a simple integration so that makes sense.
