After market scales

Has anyone used this easy mod?
The Spyderco scales on my Para 3 are fine, but I like to MOD, so ordered canvas Micarta. They (for me) improve the grip greatly. Got them from KC, forgot the name.

I haven't done it yet but since I don't wear black a lot I'd like to swap my stock G10 scales with something lighter. I might buy some 1/8 inch thick tero tuf and get busy with the laser cutter at work.
Currently carrying a Manix 2 G10 and a Chicago G10.

Yup.

I like RGT’s micarta scales the best so far, but I haven’t tried them all.

Let’s see some pics of your newly-improved Para 3!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

I have Micarta scales on one of my Enduras.

Bidirectional FRN certainly is still more secure in hand, but this only comes into play in exceptionally slippery conditions.

Otherwise Micarta always just feels great in hand for me (have it on some non Spydie fixed blades too).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I put "skinny mod" micarta scales on one of my Cruwear P3s. For me, it was a marked improvement. It no longer feels crowded to my hand.

I’ve done to scale mods by RGT , Smock in Terotuf and Shaman in Burlap Micarta . Made very well . I have plans for two more in future but because of both knives only offered by RC Bladeworks. MG2

Just put a set of Flytanium Lotus scales on a Para 3. They're contoured green micarta and are a marked improvement from my perspective.

Yessir.. whether or not I mod the scales usually depends on the original scales for me.. I'm ok with most G10 & FRN, but I'm not the biggest fan of CF, so most of my mods have been on CF or CF/G10-scaled Spydies (& other brand knives). Sharp Dressed Knifes Micarta scales have been a huge improvement to my Smock and GB2.

This might be a good place to ask - has anyone come across any green or natural micarta scales for the manix 2 xl? I’ve ordered some blanks as a last resort to try and make them, but it would be a world more straightforward with the tight tolerances needed to just buy some pre-made. I can always use up the micarta blanks on mules.

Alan Putnam has a listing for them, but none in stock.

Vivi definitely had some micarta scales on his M2XL.

Here is a very expensive M2XL with micarta preinstalled.

RC Bladeworks is another option for the Manix 2, but not the Manix 2 XL.

If I were trying to get M2XL scales, like I am for my Stretch 2 XL, I’d just be emailing everyone who does good work and asking them to make me some. I haven’t had luck with the S2XL yet, but that show I got my Stretch 2 scales.

I did not at first then I tried a couple of the easiest to grab in Europe for not much money, or came upon second hand scales from fellow french Spyderfans.

1. Para 3 with Terotuf "slim" scales by Fireside.co
2. Para 3 with micarta (I don't know which one, my guess is brown linen) scales by RippsGarageTech
3. PM2 with green canvas micarta, I think they are called "lotus scales" by Flytanium. I had chosen another color, but I had to send them back because of defects. They still are beautiful and very comfortable !
4. Brouwer with carbon fiber front scale (liner delete) by Flytanium. I did just put the scale back on for the picture, i came to prefer the original G10 scale.
5. PM2 with carbon fiber scales that must come from China since I paid like 15 bucks to get them from someone.

What I've learned is that I'm bond to making my own scales once I have an actual place to set all of my tooling. Even if I'm not biased towards one handle material more than another (for folders), I tend to go for linen micarta, like the Domino front scale I just ordered from RC Bladeworks (It's red linen micarta, me likey). I'm in Europe so it's very expensive to import most set of scales, like the gorgeous aluminium scales made by AWT.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Robin. Finally made an IG : ramo_knives

if you really wanted them, maybe you can request a left hand set or modify them yourself. it should be relatively easy to mark the holes on the inside using the liner, remove the liner, and then drill small-diameter holes. they don't have to be perfect either because the clip will cover them. the screw just needs to be able to reach the liner to secure the clip in place.
