I wouldn't mind a Province blade with MT handle mash-up. 🤔
For me it’s a GB1 blade with a Mule handle in M4……. :party-face :party-face
I'll take that action!

Imho with extra length you need extra thick stock but still use existing scales and hardware. What you have is an abuseable knife that can be replaced with say Spy 27 that is a production item like the Spy 27 straight spine mule. Maybe some sprint runs in more exotic steels if proven popular. Heavier scales can be made to give balance or adding weight in the butt of the handle possibly utilizing existing holes on the steel handle and 3D print scales to hold the weights in place.

Well, as usual I’m the one that’s not in favor of something like this. Maybe if it was a regular production version along side the current regular production SPY27 version but I would be fully against adding it to the actual Mule Team Project.

It shouldn’t be part of the Mule Team Project, in my opinion, because it would destroy the control variable that has been present through its entire existence. It just seems shortsighted in my mind to introduce a change to a research project after 35+ identical examples of Mule team knives.

As Darby noted, the Temperance 2 is already a lot like like a larger Mule Team knife. It’s worth looking into because the amount of investment needed is significantly less on your end compared to Spyderco tooling up for a whole new knife.

On top of it all, if Spydercos hands out this cookie, it won’t be long before people are asking for a glass of milk to go with it. It happens everytime. (Aka thread title - “Wharncliffe Mule? Anybody???”) :spiral-eyes

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. It can quickly become overwhelming and end up doing more harm than good. As one idiot who’s been obsessed with the brand for a decade, I would caution against spreading too thin.

IF it could be brought to reality I'd buy a 5 to 5.5 inch Spyderco Native Chief XL. Keep the same proportions for everything, just lengthen it from 4, to a 5 or 5.5 inch blade. If you make it 25% to 33% larger everywhere, that's it.

It may be an excellent fixed blade.

It’s such a pleasure to wake up and read a load of good natured banter on a forum. I used to be a member of some chainsaw porting forums and the folk on there could be quite unpleasant to each other - really put me off being a part of those communities.

@Mushroom - good points well made. I’m not proposing that it should fulfil the current Mule’s role as a steel test bed platform. What I would like is a large bladed (6 inch or so) knife for use at work in a forestry application. I think there is a gap in the market for Spyderco to bring their unique design and ethical philosophy with a utilitarian offering at that size. Interoperability between current Mule scales and parts would be a bonus, but is not something I’m hung up on.

I love using my Mules as they are so beautifully designed and executed whilst being presented to us at a reasonable price point. If I could get double the blade length in a great steel with Spyderco’s heat treat for around double the price I would be thrilled and wouldn’t hesitate to use the thing to death. I’d be more reluctant to really use something for genuine work utility that I’d paid $500 upwards for from a custom maker.

I like the concept, and I’m already liking my Mule Team 2. I’ve started testing and it’s pretty promising, for my preferences and uses.

A bigger one would be neat, though, only as a production knife.
If nothing else, I think it would be an interesting addition to the fixed blade market if it was presented with all of the other Spyderco things (like SpyderEdge, Spy27, Mule Team handles, Boltaron sheaths with G-Clips, and good geometry).

I’m a big fan of Spyderco fixed blades and have often lamented their apparent lack of recognition and sometimes discontinuation.

One day, I want to make prototypes of some fixed blades I’ve designed “with Spyderco in mind” and maybe see where that takes the ideas (ideas = protos) that I found in my head.

This just means I want to see Spyderco’s fixed blades gain recognition because I hope they might be inclined to make more in response.
I guess that could be seen as a bit selfish, but my support for their fixed blades is entirely rooted in my genuine appreciation of their high performance.

It’s a big win, in my eyes, if Spyderco makes more fixed blades, to sum it up.

It’s a funny thing - I started buying Spyderco folding knives for work as they’re brilliant, but after acquiring a couple of Mules they have become my go-to for a plain edge blade. They are so durable, ergonomic, easy to clean, a pleasure to sharpen, the list is long. The only folder I always have with me now is my Caribbean Salt 2 SE as even though there are so many things about it that I don’t love it is frankly just brilliant at what it does.
