If an FRN model is not in the cards, I’d opt for a Crucarta Goddard. Bonus points for contoured scales like the Shaman. I’ve never owned anything from Seki besides lightweights, but I have a Stretch 2 XL on the way and am excited for it.

I know that Spyderco doesn’t like switching factories, but if the cost would be significantly cheaper in Golden, that would be a strong argument.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Sak, thank you for taking the time to entertain the idea of bringing this gem back. While I would not turn down a linered version of a Goddard one of the things that kept me coming back to it over the past 25 years is the lightweight aspect of it and adding liners would take away from that. That being said if that was done I’d assume it would be around the endura weight which isn’t much heavier. As much as it pains me, after carrying the stretch 2xl lightweight and hopefully one day the native chief lightweight they would be able to fill the segment of the market(and my pocket) that the c16 lightweight filled, without the need for new molds or tooling.

If only it was this easy to get spyderco to respond to the request to bring back the Caly jr or 3

Throw in the Rookie and I’d be out of money in a heartbeat.

Not complaining though. While the Goddard is looking less and less like something for me, the fact they seem willing to go through the trouble of reviving anything, despite the need to update both design and tooling, is a good sign.

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Any steel is fine (preferably in stainless). Micarta or G-10 would be great, especially if screw-together construction.

I'll put in a request. Plain and fully serrated FRN. Steel preference?

sal
Id like to see some spyderco folders in scanvik 12c27 or 13c26. Helle does a beautiful job laminating these steels.

There are some challenges to a Goddard "Sprint".

The original tooling for the FRN model is old and outdated. The original was made with Micarta, bit the Micarta didn't do a good job at holding clip screws. We could do a sprint in Micrta or G-10, but we'd have to use skeletonized liners to hold clip screws, which would raise the cost considerably. The cost for a new mold, would be too expensive for a sprint.

thoughts?

Sal, you sly fox, the red St. Nick’s Goddard is a great surprise. Thank you, for giving the old molds another run. Tell the misses she owes you a big smooch from me.

Hey Sal:

I know K390 is probably easier for Seki, and I'd buy for sure, but I'd go nuts for a Cruwear version.

I'm also a VG10/SPY27 fan, so SPY27 would be awesome, too. Thanks!
