Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
A few questions for you all who have tried these Rahven models: are they all the same thickness? I'm looking at the Small Barracuda vs the paring knives.
Also, how do you anticipate they would perform for cleaning game and deboning meat?
Thanks!

Can't wait for this one to come out. Have some cool handle ideas in wood and polymer. Looking at keeping them metal free for max waterproofness and super lightweight for when wade fishing and back packing
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
The weight is one of the exciting aspects. Getting used to a knife with such low weight may take some getting used to. Will make a fantastic fixed EDC

Yeah this doesn’t get me that excited for buying one…
Im a vegetarian as technically cows are made of grass and water.
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
If you look at this knife you can see how skinny it is at the break and they are very thin. The mules won’t have that issue.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
So basically the Mules I have now are a cut a hard plastic bottle open to get the last bit of something out so I don’t ruin my thin Japanese knives. They are used hard and they are probably the best small blade with a full handle to do this.
Then the whole sharpening intricacies.
Can’t see this being anything other than a slicer.
Will probably buy one for fun factor more than use.
As a add on… being a butcher we had all the reps bring in the ceramic knives when they came out and let us try them and watched several brands fail time and time again. Ceramic sharpening steels lasted a bit longer but not by much. Yes the larger ones were great meat slicers but were in no way better than a constantly razor sharp steel knife.

They are all the same thickness, which is quite thin.PistolPete wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 6:59 amA few questions for you all who have tried these Rahven models: are they all the same thickness? I'm looking at the Small Barracuda vs the paring knives.

If you want to clean game, I wouldn't go with the paring knife. I think the height of the blade also effects the lateral strength. The paring knives have been the only ones that I have broken, but I've now broken three of them.
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Ok, let’s start taking bets on when the ceramic mule will be announced? Fingers crossed for January. Question is, what number produced. These things will be quite the collector and user.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Still hoping we see some ceramic mules here soon? Any update on release dates? I'm definitely in for a couple.
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
They're in-the-works. We've been testing and sharpening prototype samples.

That is fantastic news Sal. This is going to be a great ultralight back packing knife with a paracord wrap.
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
The paracord will be heavier than the blade

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Doubt I'll get one but can't wait to see what it looks like. I'm still amazed at the variety of materials Spyderco works with.
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
could not be more excited for these. sound genuinely like a next step, very interested to see how they handle
Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I see a lot of custom knife makers will want to make a fully non metallic knife with these. Carbon fiber pins and carbon fiber handles.

Hi Fireman,
What would someone want a fully non metallic knife for?
