Re: stok drop point
The K390 Enuff 2 is a lot more appealing to me, but I do like that Spyderco is doing more edc fixed blades.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Re: stok drop point
If you look at Spyderco website under their "blade shapes", it is NOT A DROP POINT.
But is a Sheepsfoot blade.

This reminds me of a Grohmann Canadian Belt Knife. I will get one for sure.

Re: stok drop point
The primary knife I carry and use is a neck knife and this sure looks like a great design. It does have a similar pattern as a Canadian Belt Knife, something I've had a slight interest in trying out.
I'm happy with 8Cr13MoV, but I imagine if this does well, they may offer it in S35VN. It could be a good model for sprints/exclusives, too.
Really looking forward to this one

These are SCREAMING for the Cru-carta treatment. They would be huge sellers if they could pull that off at $100 or less in my opinion. I'd be all over them.

Re: stok drop point
While I usually support the “Crucarta them all” approach, I actually think that G-10 is the better option for this use case. G-10 is grippier is most conditions, and these are EDC knives, not Bushcraft knives. I’d say that avoiding hot spots is less important than a sure grip in this case.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:13 pmThese are SCREAMING for the Cru-carta treatment. Now, I’d love a Crucarta Bow River, Bushcrafter, or Proficient.

Looking at these on the Eric shot show BHQ video…they have supper slim profile scales. Probably 0.125

Re: stok drop point
Really no need for it, but for $70...why not?? Love me a sheepsfoot, and wouldn't mind a 3rd small fixed blade just for the heck of it. See how Spyderco's 8cr is vs some of the others I've had in the past from other companies.

don't expect it to be magic or anything, but my resilience is noticeably better than 8cr13mov i've experienced from other companies.
i also don't need one of these, but i'll probably get the sheepsfoot just to try it out.

I sometimes feel very disconnected from the mainstream, so I shouldn't be so surprised at the positive response to this knife. But, I am. Anyway, in a world that still has Morakniv, I can find no need for one of these.

A already have a G3 and Insingo, so buying a greatly inferior version holds no interest for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
More fixed blades from Spyderco is a good thing overall.

More fixed blades from Spyderco is a good thing overall.
A couple things that have dissuaded me so far from buying a G3 are the lack of a real guard for your index finger and high prices. The Stok addresses both of those complaints and is overall smaller and easier to carry -- not really the same design intent as the Guardians.
I haven't seen anything from Mora that would compete with this. The closest would be the Eldris, but it's chunky and awkward and has an an inferior sheath, IMO. Very different designs.
For me, the positive response to this knife is due to it being a small, more affordable edc fixed blade with a good, versatile sheath -- something very underrepresented in Spyderco's catalog.

Re: stok drop point
While I don’t see these filling the same needs as my Moras or vice versa, I too am a bit surprised by the positive response. But then again, I’m also quite used to having preferences that deviate from the mainstream.
I like how thin they’ve made the knife, scales and the whole package with the sheath. I’m in with all of that, but there’s just something with the overall handle shape and disposition of usable blade vs handle real estate that doesn’t quite jive with me. Especially for the EDC role I can visualize this knife in.
The plunge grind is definitely part of that assessment. I’m generally not a fan of Spyderco putting holes in their fixed blades, and if they did that design choice just to have the hole, I’m less than impressed.
The hole in my Waterway is probably the only thing I don’t like about that knife, and it’s a totally unnecessary feature that just adds production cost (however slight).
Re: stok drop point
This knife begs for a regrind to make the plunge line vertical and maximize the potential of the thin bladestok. But then it's a $200 knife.
Re: stok drop point
i think you guys might be overthinking it. it's a budget, small fixed blade with a spyder on it. if that's not enough, there are others to choose from. if it is enough, now it exists.
i do think the plunge grind is strange, as i've said, but for the kind of role i imagine this is meant for, i can't see it being a real issue.

Re: stok drop point
In my case, that's probably true.
But I have to say, the plunge line is the only thing keeping me from being EXCITED about this knife. And the only reason I care about the plunge line is what nerdlock pointed out: it might make sharpening difficult with a guided system, which is what I like to use.
All that said, I'll probably buy one anyway because otherwise it's very appealing, the sharpening system may be a non-issue, and the Sharpmaker does a fine job if it comes to that.
2.5mm bladestock is almost irresistable!

Re: stok drop point
Guys, we should all buy a Mora and never get another knife. Toss out all the knives you already have too, because you won't be needing them anymore...
If i didn't know any better, I'd think a Morakniv knife could take on infinite forms with the number of times I've seen them compared to other, completely different, knives.
There's room and there's a desire for Moras and Stoks, and G3s apparently. All of which are quite different to me.
