Hahaha! The only "mod" beyond just switching out the scales is adding a lanyard tube which of course the FRCP handle doesn't have. Conveniently, Rockscale sells them.
a quick image search on google shows that the metal piece that holds the spring for the manix is quite different between the g10 and lw manixes. is there any way you can show us the insides and/or more angles so we can see how it fits together?
Wait. You know what, ladybug, you caught me, and I'm sorry, but I wasn't trying to be deceptive. I just totally forgot that you need an expendable G-10 model to cannibalize for the part you're referring to. In my case, I already had the LW, then bought the scales, and then bought a base model to get that part.

I feel like a jerk for not remembering this, since it more than doubles the cost of the mod. It didn't make an impression on me at the time, since I already had the FRCP knife lying around unused, and it felt like getting a brand new high-end Manix for a fairly reasonable price.

Sorry again. :downcast
no worries, bro. i just wanted to make sure. it at least still gives me hope that the lw blade is compatible to be swapped into g10 handles, which seems to have mixed success.

Recently liberated the Maxamet blade from my LW and threw it in my G10 handle and it works no problem. Blades themselves definitely seem to be the same between the LW and G10 as far as I could tell. The lockup did increase unfortunately so it's at around 90%-95% or something, using the original ball and cage from the LW handle transplanted into the G10. I might try a slightly larger ball but no other functional issues to speak of.

I plan on throwing the old S30V blade into the LW handles but I still need to shave down the screws for the new pivot barrels.

I'd be interested to know if the locking block dimensions are actually different from a non LW M2. or if it's just lacking threads to utilize screws?

...of course even if the existing holes are a diameter that could successfully be threaded, it might be difficult finding the correct counter-sink head machine screws in an appropriate stainless steel grade.

For me at least, the coolest thing about those monobloc Ti scales is that you could leave your original scales and liners attached to the lanyard tube and either glue, or flare a new Ti tube (or plug) into the aftermarket scales, leaving you free to return the knife to "original" any time you choose.

not my images.

the pieces have a completely different design below where the spring is held. the lw anchors into the frcp and actually goes around the screw assembly instead of having the screw pass through it.

A trip down memory lane! :smiling-cheeks

I suppose I have modded about a dozen Manix 2's by now. One day I'll dig into my photo album, and post more of them here.

These pictures I took are dated March 2019.

I had just replaced a set of scales on one of my S110V models, and was just about to add a backspacer to another S110V model. I really disliked the color of the G10 scales that came with those, but love the S110V. So they often get modded by me. Probably four of them in total, so far.

The knife about to get a backspacer added, had it's scales dyed black earlier.

Thanks for the great pictures! Anyone else find the CBBL to be kind of elegant in it's simplicity?

I just recently made a few upgrades to my 15v manix. I'm not a fan of the standard spyderco clip but I also don't like deep carry clips so I picked up the plain titanium one mentioned earlier in this thread from MXG. I really like it. I also got one for my s90v fluted CF native and a black one for my GB2.

I also bought a titanium ball cage and a ceramic ball bearing from Flytanium. I love both of those, well worth the money.

The upgrade I immediately hated though was also from Flytanium and it was the titanium hardware kit. The titanium screws were fine I guess but kind of pointless but the thing I really hated was the titanium lanyard tube that wasn't flared. I could hear it rattling in there and there was also nothing holding the scales together at that end of the knife anymore. The clip screws held the g10 and steel liner together on one side but there was nothing holding the two together on the other side anymore at all, unless I wanted to just screw in a couple bare pocket clip screws which looks pretty bad in my opinion.

Anyway, I took those all out and returned it to flytanium and then put back in the old flared lanyard tube and screws. I think I will leave it as is with the stock scales, upgraded titanium mxg clip and the upgraded flytanium ball cage and ceramic ball..... however...... those AWT linerless scales have really caught my eye! I may have to pick up a set, I just can't decide which color of the anodized aluminum I would want.... they don't really have very good pictures of all of the different colors (they do have good pictures of the cerakote but i feel like that would flake off like a benchmade coated blade). If anyone has any pictures of the od green or sniper grey in anodized, please share some pictures! i think those are my only options as FDE looks to be sold out.

Speaking of AWT scales does anyone have any experience with the cerakote versions? The titanium blue really caught my eye and I’m trying to track down a used Manix2 to customize.

All I've done is two scale replacements which also included ball cage replacements. The plastic one is fine, but looked out of place with the new scales. One also got color coordinated screws because I wanted to go full popinjay.

Edited to add a quick pic.

what's the texture like on those ti scales? is it more like a macbook, or a spydiechef? because one i really hate the feeling of and the other is great.

The texture is closer to that of the Sebenza and Inkosi than it is to the Chef. The Chef is a smoother finish while the Rockscale gives more grip. For me, the Rockscale texture, and the scales overall, is close to perfection. I really think Spyderco should offer a model with these preinstalled.

They raise the level so much that even the S30V model is worthy. Heck, I even thought about using my 154CM model, but it is an original M2, so I left it alone.
