Re: Price increases 2023?
Like you see reading posts here prices in the US only got a +8% not a +30% to +40% as we did in europe so that means only one thing. We are are the Lozers in Europe. And i am sorry to say this but we will not get much support for our complaints on this forum because sadly most people on this forum do not care about our problem its a far away from there bed show so only the really good people do care , but the majority think this is all normal while it is clearly not since all other brands raised by 5% or raised max by 10% and some did not even raise at all.mpc2 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 3:30 amI have to "cry and moan" a bit about the prices in Europe. One of the large knife online shops ( k&t ) now has the
Shaman for 335 Eur (358 USD)
Manix Lightweight S110V for 243 Eur (260 USD)
Native 5 S110V for 312 Eur (333 USD)
Native Chief for 268 Eur (286 USD)
Native 5 Lightweight for 175 Eur (186 USD)
Para 3 LW Spy27 for 223 Eur (238 USD)
I mean, come on.
Also a reason why we will not get much support is there are also more then few popular long time members out here that basically called us cheap idiots all over this thread and even from the beginning when the prices in Europe went up and they were still the same in the US. But yeah those members are privileged around here i guess.
But back to topic if these faulty Euro raises keep up for 3 more years a simple tenacious will cost 200 euro in Europe and probably just around a 100$ in the US and still they will not care , they will complain over it costing a 100$ That is for sure but there it stops while prices in the US are stupidly cheap!
For example a Dlc Manix XL they pay 204$ while we need to pay 340€ only blind people have an excuse not to see that this can not be normal because even at there msrp there is a difference of more then 50$ in the US its favor and nobody in the US buys spydies on msrp they only buy on map and even about map they are complaining. If we in Europe could buy on there map prices we would win the lotary! And if for some reason Sal dropped map and let US citizens all pay msrp he would be alone on this forum and probably bankrupt over night because people even complain over the Map price all of last year around and the years before.
This will be my last entry in this topic because its getting to exhausting and the only effect is that some members get mad at you because the words are not pro spyderco in there eyes while in the end all we want is to do is help Spyderco.
Re: Price increases 2023?
if i lived overseas, i wouldn't be able to be a spyderco customer. no doubt. when i hear the prices you all have to pay, it blows my mind.

Well, as long as my other EU dealers don't move Spyderco prices a ton, I won't believe what Knives&Tools is displaying.
It's always more expensive there and at Lamnia than at the Coutellerie Tourangelle anyways. So I pray for the Coutellerie Tourangelle to not follow the same path !

I've been diving a lot more in the secondary market lately, there's a good group of french Spyderco aficionados. I think I'd be able to maintain these luxury expenses within this group for a good amount of time.

I am also an overseas customer (initially from Africa, but now Australia), so we are in the same boat. I think I understand your pain. I'm curious, why do you continue to buy from expensive EU dealers, and don't import directly from the USA? Would that not be much cheaper, even when adding import taxes?apollo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 11:09 pmWe are are the Lozers in Europe.mpc2 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 3:30 amI have to "cry and moan" a bit about the prices in Europe. It is very rare for me to buy locally due to similar high prices and limited stock. Sprint runs and exclusives are almost impossible to find locally, which is why I import directly most of the time. Shipping internationally is expensive, but our import taxes are low (10% and sometimes 0 depending on the retailer). Perhaps that makes the difference in my case.

Re: Price increases 2023?
Thx for seeing what we are trying to show Ladybug it means allot!
We are as crazy about spyderco in Europe as all US members are so you can imagine how much it hurts for the fans out here. We already had a bad time since stocks are always low to non existent down here.
Now this , well it will not keep me away from Spyderco but it feels bad since every model has kinda a personal line what its really worth to what its costs is and many people there favorite models now are either balancing on the line or went totally over it. While that did not need to have happend if our price increase was more similar to the one in the US.

Most US dealers do not ship internationally to my country in Europe for some reason. I contacted multiple and only found 1 that i still need to try.Brock O Lee wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 5:37 amI am also an overseas customer (initially from Africa, but now Australia), so we are in the same boat. I will try out french shops only thing is they only seem to have shipping services i never heard off and i doubt they deliver at the local mail point when you can not be at home for the delivery. So that scares me off a bit.Ramonade wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 5:35 amOh, that's not good. But dutch and german websites always seemed super pricy to me. We'll see ! I haven't in Europe in over 20 years but isn't this a dealer issue (charging MSRP) more than anything?

Another Aussie here. 5-10 years ago it was hard to find many that would ship to Australia. Now a fair few do
Never bought a Spyderco in Australia. Always one of the 3 bigger US distributors that ship to here.

Re: Price increases 2023?
Not 100% correct but this is what i understand.bbturbodad wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 6:02 amI haven't in Europe in over 20 years but isn't this a dealer issue (charging MSRP) more than anything?
Spyderco sets a price that they find there model is worth and they want there dealers to sell it at least on that price. (Map) Then to not be competitive to those dealers they make a price for there own. (msrp) Now because Spyderco lists that msrp price for them and that is fine. But they never put a maximum price on there models like other brands do that are as famous as them. Then not only do dealers need to pay more then US dealers ( because no discounts as large like us dealers get i got this from multiple sorces by now and i have no problems with that) but then they get taxed on that higher number plus shipping and then they take as much profit as they want because there is no max price. So in that case you get situations like this where prices go up in the US with a minor 8% and in Europe they go up with 30 to 40%. Now i can not say if this all is 100% correct offcoarse i do not even think Sal himself knows how it works perfectly but its the only explanation i find that can cause a situation like this.
So my suggestion would be to put a maximum price on there models that way things can be more expensive here but do not explode like they do now. And i think a max price would not hurt spyderco since then they are in control over prices not others.
Re: Price increases 2023?
No, it's a politics issue, but I won't open that can of worms any further.bbturbodad wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 6:02 amI haven't in Europe in over 20 years but isn't this a dealer issue (charging MSRP) more than anything?
Apollo, don't blame us for your vote.
If Spyderco put in a price ceiling in Europe then you would have shortages. You still would never get a knife, just for a different reason. The two economies are (for now) fundamentally different, and you voted for it.

Where the heck do i blame anyone? I do not even blame Spyderco ! And i also do not talk politics sal does what he does best that is his thing but that does not mean i can not try to search for a solution! And you talk about shortages. Every model is almost always out of stock except the pm family so sorry if i still rather see nothing in stock at a lower price then nothing in stock at a higher price wont you? and i do not know where that voting thing came from but i do not have a vote in anything anywhere!Erich wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 8:02 amNo, it's a politics issue, but I won't open that can of worms any further.bbturbodad wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 6:02 amI haven't in Europe in over 20 years but isn't this a dealer issue (charging MSRP) more than anything?

Re: Price increases 2023?
Double post sorry
Re: Price increases 2023?
I have been watching this thread but I kind of feel like chiming in. I understand this year’s increase more than last year’s. Last year’s spike seemed more like I was paying for Spyderco’s expansion but this increase is more in line with inflation. Regardless, my wages haven’t kept pace with inflation and it is increasingly difficult for me to justify buying a new knife when I have a herd of knives that I don’t use. Just my .02 cents worth.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.
